Hey All,
New here, and am stuck on coming up with a blog name (with an available domain).
About me:
Just turned 26, married with a newborn and wife at home. I found Dave Ramsey a few years back, paid off a bunch of debt, and bought a house by age 24. My blog will be aimed toward getting on a financial plan, killing debt, spending wisely (thrift), some lifestyle posts (I'll call 'em "wifestyle" posts ), and in general, how to use the dollars that pass through your hands to match your priorities in life.
Any ideas?
note: I know asking for domain ideas on a public forum has the potential for people to see an idea they like and snatch up the domain. That's fine, but I'm just drawing a blank on coming up with a good name that helps set the mood for my site.
Thanks in advance!

Can you give us some ideas of names you've played around with? Some people like cutesy names, others like play on words, still others very serious sounding names.
Either way, your blog idea sounds awesome. Congrats on having your financial act together so young in life.

Anything you like doing as a hobby? I went walking at the wilderness park, saw the "bog", and was able to relate it to my life and getting out of debt.

I would take a look at Market Samurai and see what you find. It is a great tool and has a domain tool built in.

@ Family CEO: Names I've though of: The Dollar Detective; Spend Slowly; The Young Budget; 20's Cents; i Heart Budget; Budgets Rock
@ Bog: I tweak my budget excel spreadsheet for fun. No, seriously. On my birthday, I had a glass of scotch, and two laptop's managing my account and planning our FY12. My wife and I have been texting all day thinking of names, but just can't get it right. Honestly, 20's Finances really encapsulates my goals, but it's already taken by an awesome blogger.
@ Eric: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to check that out when I get home.

Wait a minute….you mean other people don't tweak their budget for fun? Because I honestly love doing that–I have budget, budget 2.0, budget 2.5, wedding budget, etc. All because I like doing different scenarios with it.

I know it goes against blog name 101 because it's long (I obviously violated it too) but http://www.SoYouThinkYouCanBudget.com (caps for clarity) is available. If you're a big budget guy the name should be catchy. Might want to run it by others though.

Awe.. thanks. From that list, I would go with theyoungbudget.com based on some quick keyword research. There's no need to rush into it – I second what eric said – I don't use Market Samurai, but it's important to spend some time doing research on the number of search engine hits that partial or complete domain names get.
Also, spend slowly together (i.e. spendslowly.com) could appear to be spends lowly, which communicates the opposite of what you are going for, I think. ;)
Then again, if it were me, I would also think about possible logo's that could accompany the site's brand. I heart budget might be able to communicate via images than young budget.
While it is important to do your homework, it's not the end of the world if you pick a bad name as long as you are willing to put in the effort to make it successful.
Good luck making the decision!

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

With a blog name like Daily Money Shot, I am the last person to be giving advice on what to name a blog but I think you've gotten some good ideas. One that popped into my head was Young Family Finances.
One totally unsolicited piece of advice. Even if you haven't named the site yet, just start writing. Don't get hung up in the details like a logo or design or even a name. Those can all be changed. Content is the most important.

In your process of picking a name, you should also check to see if the twitter name, facebook page, etc. is available for the options that you like.

@bogofdebt: I know, right? Budgeting when I get home is my way to wind down from the day. Something very calming about updating my spending, tracking my budget goals, and thinking of where we can save this month :)
@ sooverdebt: I kinda like budget tweaker, but it is a little too….ecletic for my tastes :)
@ Nick: I like it, but I'm thinking a shorter name would be best. I'm hoping for some kind of two-word alliteration or phrase that'll get stuck in people's mind :). Thanks for the suggestion!
@ 20'sFinances: I do want to consider SEO for this domain name. I love to talk finances, and have honestly wanted financial counseling or some form of talking about personal finance to eventually be my day job, so I would love to pick the right name that helps me achieve this goal someday. I do agree that quality content is the best way to make this happen, but there is some importance to a good name :). Thanks for the advice!
@ Edward: Thanks for th vote of confidence. It's catchy, but I dunno. Still up in the air on that one.
@ jana: I like that. We are a young family, but I also want to really reach out to the young, single crowd as well. I think that have a good financial head on your shoulders before starting a family is EXTREMELY beneficial. So…hmmmm, Don't know! This is tough. I do completely agree that content is King in the blogosphere, so I plan to start writing once tax season subsides. I've got 20+ ideas already cookin', need to get it on (digital) paper! Thanks!
@ Pam: Great advice. I will definitely do that so I can be sure to have a larger, cohesive online presence. Thanks!
Seriously, keep 'em coming! I appreciate all the advice, and am super excited to find a blog name, but even more excited to get to writing.
Thanks everyone!

I like "i Heart Budgets" because it's different. I lucked out on my name; I didn't think much about it (I really spent less than a minute thinking about it) and it turned out to be something I get constant compliments on. Plus, it starts with an A which pushes me closer to the top of lots of lists.
I would say stick with something short, easy to remember, and something that's kind of fun. I like i Heart Budgets because it pulls away from the obvious without hiding what your blog is about. Plus, I would be able to differentiate you from other bloggers with it. For instance, there are so many blogs that have the word "pennies" in them that sometimes I get confused with who is who; of course, I do read lots of the blogs and because I am a regular reader, I can differentiate the ones that I read, but the newer blogs can confuse me. It's possible that it's just me.

Great insight Daisy. I was leaning toward that one as well because it's unique in the community. Just found out it's taken, though . IHEARTBUDGET.COM is available, though. But at that point, might confuse people, because they'd put in the letter 's' at the end instinctively.
Has anyone had luck with putting dashes in their domain. Like "I-HeartBudgets.com"? Or does that usually deter traffic? I think putting one dash in wouldn't be too bad…
Edit: I think I am really leaning toward "IHeart-Budgets.com", actually!!!!!!
What do you guys/gals think?

I have a dash in my domain (http://www.add-vodka.com) and I'm not too sure if it does deter some traffic. I'd love to read as to whether or not other people feel that it does.
I'd have rather had no dash, but addvodka.com was taken by a vodka company (lol).
Have you considered using iheartbudgets.org? or .net?

Thanks Daisy. I just noticed your dash :)
.org is taken, but .net is available. I don't know if .net is worse than the single dash. I guess I'll wait for some others to chime in on their experience.
The bummer is that iheartbudgets.com isn't even a hosted or live site, it's probably owned by someone who is domain farming. I was thinking with the dash, I could emphasize it in my logo or something to get people used to it. Now that I think about it, I bet .net would be easier to remember instead of wondering "where do I put the dash?"

I have .net for my site name. The .com was taken, I'm guessing by someone hoping to extort money for it. I haven't noticed a difference in traffic or anything as a result.
Congrats on picking a name! What did you decide to go with?
