Do you recommend letting the tool correct all the redirects it finds? Mine find around 180 or so.  You can check as many as 30 at a time and do a 'Bulk Action' of fixing the redirect, but I wasn't sure if this was necessary/recommended.

I did find a ton of broken links that I went through.  Many were removed, a few I actually went to the site and found the content and revised the URL.  I had a ton on my own site from images in old posts that I had forgotten about that didn't get brought over from Blogger.  I'm ashamed to tell you what the number was, but I got 96% of them off the list and the remaining ones are for sites that I think are still live and will be checking.

I thought it was interesting that there were a few that came back with 403 Forbidden errors, though the sites and links were perfectly fine for browsing.  I'm not sure if those sites blacklisted my host (maybe due to the high number of trackbacks that were generated when I first moved to WP last month) or if they have a block. I marked those as 'Not Broken'.

So, thank you for the info.

Take the time to look through them, especially looking at where the redirect is going. For example, maybe a legit blogger left a comment on your site a year ago. Now their expired domain was picked up by a porn site and all links redirect to that porn site.

Guess what's worse than your links redirecting to sites like that? You now linking directly to sites like that! ;)

I just go through each one and allow the redirect on the legit ones, break the link on the shady ones.

I got tipped off to this at fincon11 and recently installed it – it's pretty sweet.

Be careful with the bulk redirect fix. It will remove all of your affiliate links.

I've been using it for quite awhile as well and recommend installing.  As SPF and Khaleef stated,  don't automatically assume it is a bad link.  Give it a few days before taking any action!

I'm going to go through the redirects individually.  Good thoughts!

Wow, incredible tool, thank you for the heads up.

I had like 400 broken links and thousands of redirects, which took me hours yesterday to go through.

Great way to clean things up and also discover other issues along the way.

For those who are using this plugin.  Is there anyway to tell it a redirect is OK, so that it doesn't continually show up in the list?  For instance, if I redirect my affiliate links, they show up on the list, and I'd like to avoid mistakenly "fixing" them.

Another note, for those of you who aren't using this plugin.  Not only does this help you, but it helps your fellow bloggers as well.  Many of the redirects that I've found are ones where a domain name has changed, or a permalink structure has changed.  While the redirects are picked up by the search engines, the direct link is always better (I think).

You can mark things that it discovers as not broken.  The broken links will let you do this by link, for redirects you have to use the 'Bulk Action' drop down list after checking them.  This removes the link from your list and I think will prevent it from reappearing in the future.

The only question I still have is occasionally I'll get some 403 – Forbidden status showing up as a broken link, even though the site and the links are fine.  I get this at One Cent At A Time and a couple others, so either they are blocking my host specifically (since the check would come from my host, not my current IP, right?) or they have some security enabled that's preventing this.

The "mark as not broken" works for the ones in the broken link list, but not for the redirects, unfortunately.  Was hoping there was a way to do the same for the redirects.

Select the ones that you want not to be checked, and then under "bulk Actions" select "Mark as Not Broken".

Hope this helps.

When I do that for the redirects, they remain on the list.  It works for the broken links, but not for the redirects.
