What are your thoughts about Facebook only showing your latest FB post to under 10% of your Liked followers? Seems like a great way for them to get businesses to spend more money boosting posts no?
Why would anybody spend money paying for Likes if only 10% show?
No outcry?
Thanks,
Sam

Every social network seems to be prioritizing the advertisers. It's understandable for Facebook. They probably tweaked the metrics once they went public and had the profit pressure on Wall Street. If they manipulate that weighting across a billion users, that's a mighty large revenue difference.

I find it annoying most of the time. Only good thing is that this made me think about branding, marketing and the rest. What came out is interesting – I have decided that 'the brand' is not The Money Principle (I worked hard to promote it) but it is Maria Nedeva. Which means that I'm putting more effert to build my G+ authority and maintaining some presence on Facebook just…well, just because :).

Because they want you to pay for sponsored posts that will have increased reach. I've heard rumors that Facebook is actually working towards 0% organic reach for pages. Which makes sense. Let's face it, pages are no longer fan operated content from regular users. They are marketing platforms for businesses these days.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I know they probably have their self-serving motives, and as an FB shareholder I am all for that, but what if you liked 100 different blogs/sites/businesses on Facebook, would you really want to see 100% of all of their posts showing up all the time? At some point, if you like them enough, you will just go visit their page yourself.

Whilst annoying as a facebook user, with moneystepper I am really a facebook advertiser and hence I expected to get treated as such. I personally think they are doing a great job monetising their business and turning a great user product into a great money-making product as well. More power to them…

Derek Halpern did a great April fools post on how he wanted to spend tons of work on his Facebook list, then explained why email lists are king.

It's a great move for them in order to get businesses to spend more advertising to increase their reach, but it kind of sucks for little guys like us.
I've basically given up on using Facebook to promote my site, I always had better success with Twitter anyway.

The only reason I am still on Facebook is because it would be odd not to have a presence there. But it's pretty frustrating to see the number of people that see the posts I write.
That's led me to share almost every post on my personal FB page and just turn that into the outlet for the blog.

I still haven't joined Facebook for Financial Samurai. My thesis was: "I want the conversation to be on my site, and not on Facebook's site." Is this the wrong thesis?
With plenty of easy social FB sharing buttons, I'm not afraid my posts won't be shared on FB either, as they have been many times before.
Also, I was just lazy I guess…. too much stuff with Twitter, FB, Google+, etc. Argh.

Facebook is certainly for a specific demographic the same way that Pinterest is. I find that certain content promotes better there but you really have to give, give give, give, ask. Instead of other platforms where you can balance giving with asking.

Even if a couple of people like our blogs per week via FB shares, and become regular readers, that won't be bad, no?

Sam,
Copyblogger recently went the other direction with their site. They disabled comments on their site and put more focus on social media. Their argument was that moving the conversation out to social media, it widens the reach. If you have an amazing insight on one of their posts, but I don't read CB, then I'll never see it. But if you write it out on Facebook or G+ and I follow you, then I will see your argument and possibly go back to read the original article.

Interesting discussion. I've found that G+, Twitter and Pintrest have been better places to get traction lately. While I spend too little time on social media, my results from these is directly what I expect when I focus on them. With Facebook, I feel like I'm throwing posts into the wind, hoping that someone might see my stuff.

Twitter has been the best for me. I don't have the patience to figure out G+, but one of these days I'll get to it. As for Facebook, the problem is that it always changing. It's frustrating just as a regular user of a personal page. I completely understand why they favor advertisers, but then the question is whether it will work well enough that I want to pay for it.

I like a lot of pages but if they post too much, there is an option to remove them from the news feed, which would explain why a portion of subscribers don't see the posts. I don't know if there is a way to know how many of your likes asked not to have you on their feed.
