Hi All, for the past couple months I've been developing a new site/blog and I'm really excited about it.  I think it will be really useful to many Yakezie folks so I thought I'd make a quick announcement here about it.  The site is called Don't Do It Yourself and it's all about how to find and hire the right freelancer.

It's quite a departure from the Car Negotiation Coach and I actually open up and share a little bit about my professional life (you can even see  what I look like).  Most of you do not know this yet, but I actually started a ".com" compnay back in the day and grew it from 3 people to 80 people and then crashed and burned back down to 3.  Anyway, I'll be sharing a blend of my professional experiences and some tips I've learned along the way about using programmers, graphic designers, VA's, etc. to help grow your blogs or businesses.

If you get a chance, please check it out and let me know what you think! And feel free to Facebook "like" it if you think it's useful Laugh.

Hey! This sounds like a great idea! I would love to hear about your experiences and hiring choices. The topic will be incredibly valuable given the entrepreneurial atmosphere today.

It would also be interesting to hear your take on the new "crowdsourcing" initiatives like CrowdSpring (for logos/web designs)

Thanks P2P and LifeAMF!  P2P- Good idea, I actually do talk a little about crowdsourcing on my pillar post about hiring graphic designers, but I absolutely want to go more in depth about it as it's an intriguing business model.

I personally love the idea of crowdsourcing and think it's a great way to refine a concept.  However, it's funny, I interviewed a couple different graphic designers and they all hated it!  They think it's a place where "wanna be designers" look for work because they can't find better paying gigs or rookie designers learn their trade.  In fact, they got angry I even brought it up.  I really do think you can get good values from crowdsourcing though.  I believe the animosity stems from the fact that they can get paid more working direct and those that have dabbled in crowdsourcing may not have had their designs selected (and thus did not get paid).

Sounds very interesting.  I actually recently hired someone from Odesk to do all my social bookmarking and hired a designer.  I just don't have time or the patience to do that stuff!

What a great niche I am definitely interested in the information available. I just hired my first articles written for a niche site I am doing and I'm looking to outsource more as I grow my blog empire ::evil laugh::

Anyway, great idea!

Great niche site.  I'm glad to see you didn't give Fiverr a high rating.  I've been disappointed both times I used it.  But at least I only wasted $5 each time!

Thanks guys, glad you like it.

@Latisha, would love to read more about the growth of your evil empire and what niche you are working on. Ok…it's probably not evil, but I still love hearing about how people grow niches into profitablity all the same!

@Kay Lynn, yeah, had to give Fiverr a low score.  You can't really use it for anything serious.  That said, if you find the right person, you can get some really cool and ridiculous things there.  It's kinda like comparing an airport gift shop to Macy's.  You go there because you want a tshirt that says "kiss me I'm Irish", not a new wardrobe.  One cool, random thing I had made after a recommendation from Jaime (eventualmillionaire), is this caricature for $5….I just haven't found any place where I would actually use it yetLaugh.

There was a TED talk by Dan Pink on questioning motivations of "paid" employees. In summary he noted that

employees that were "rewarded" for a creative task ended up doing much more poorly than employees that were not given an incentive.

I wonder how it applies to crowd sourcing. There is financial incentive, BUT it's also a more "free-form" way to work.

But I wonder what a better way to motivate logo-designers would be? (I'm in the middle of watching the Ted talks video, so maybe he gets to that.)

Hey Geoff, the site looks great.  It can be scary trying to find a ghost writer or graphic designer, and there's plenty of people who are looking for that kind of help.  Maybe you can even write up a report to give away or sell…kind of a soup to nuts guide.

Almost forgot about this. I am in need of a VA for various tasks. But first I have to figure out what my budget would be…
