I see some blogs have a blogroll while others don't. Does anyone have opinions on the advantage/disadvantage of having one?
I've never had one, but now that I've been blogging for awhile, there's a few blogs that I like and I appreciate how much they've supported me. I think a blogroll might be a nice way to continually show that and to support those bloggers in return. Thoughts on that?

I like having a blogroll because it's a quick way for me to click over to the blogs that I love. And I also love to show others the love I have for them :)

I see the best value in a blogroll as being to those who become regular readers. There have been blogs that have become my favorite, and more than once I've thought "Hmmm…if I like this blog so much, chances are I'll like some of the blogs that they like" And I have found many good blogs that way.
This is why my Blog Roll is made up only of those who have, along the way, become my favorite blogs.

I like blogrolls for all the above reasons. Mostly, I like to do it to show link love for blogs I like to read. I figure if someone likes my blog, they will enjoy reading blogs I like.
@MoneyBeagle – I just realized my reasoning is almost identical to yours. Sounds like I need to visit your blog and see what you recommend! LOL

I use a "smart blogroll" that links to up to 10 sites at a time. I have a handful of my Yakezie friends and other blogs I read in there on rotation.

I only link to my favorites…and sometimes forget to update it regularly. So if you also end up starting a blogroll to just link to sites that you read, I would highly suggest setting up a monthly reminder.

I like blog rolls because if I enjoy reading a blog, I'll usually click on over to the blogroll they have and find a few more I enjoy. Like Money Beagle, I figure if someone enjoys reading my blog, they might enjoy reading blogs I read-just like I do. I need to get better at updating mine though.

A monthly reminder is a good idea, I'd probably forget and then years later I'd have blogs up there that no longer exist or something, lol.

Well I think you guys have convinced me that a blogroll is a good idea. And of course, if I decide that it sucks after I put it up, I can always remove it later. No decisions are permanent in blog world! :-) Thanks for the opinions!

GUILTY! I haven't updated my list in several months. The monthly reminder is a FANTASTIC idea!
Now that FINCON12 is over – I really need to add more blogs. Time to go through all those business cards I brought home…

When I first started my blogroll I exchanged blogroll links with anyone that offered to do so. Now, I try to keep it to just a few blogs that I read. If the blogroll gets too big I don't think people pay any attention to it. I do need to go through my blogroll and clean it up.

Blogrolls kept current are a great asset to readers. I've discovered many obscure but fabulous writers through clicking on blogrolls of various sites I enjoy.

I have my blogroll as a page where you can see the full list (probably 30-35), and use the Better Blogroll plugin to show a random sampling of ten on my home page.

I didn't know that there was such a plugin, I'll check it out. Seems like there's a plugin for everything if I only remember to look!
