Maybe an FAQ section would be good.
Searching is definitely an option but it's not always easy in the forums unless I happen to be missing something. If you search for a term or phrase it gives you the forum that it's in, but I haven't seen anything that directs you to the actual posts that contain the search terms. If you happen to hit in a forum that has 5-20 pages, that can get cumbersome to read to try to find the answer to one question.
We also have to remember that while veterans may have seen the same question 20 times, the question is new to someone that's just getting started off. They have the same enthusiasm, inexperience, and probably feelings of being overwhelmed as most of us did, and they also don't have the benefits of 'fresh forums' that they can see built from the ground up like a lot of people here did.
I'd be happy to work on a team putting together an FAQ type thing if that's something anybody is interested in. I'd ask that anything like that get deferred until 2012.
Just a few things to mull over :)

Well said MB – when I was trying to publish the results of my Nov giveaway, I searched for something along the lines of "November 10%" and got like 20 pages of results in the Yakezie forums.

Just a quick note on searching. As with any search feature the better query you give the better results you get. MB, it shouldn't give you the forums, it should give you the actual threads with results. I always search for the advertiser name before dealing with him/her. It has worked well so far. Jacob, one reason it might have showed you that many results is % is a regular expression in most of the search algorithm, so is * and . That means you can have anything in that place (based on the wild card character) it pretty much searched for November and there really might have been that many threads started in Nov. :)
I will have a longer reply (my list of vents :) ) later but wanted to clarify on the search. Also if any one wants to compile a faq, please take the lead, when you have the post let me know, I will make it sticky.

Jacob, I did the search for November 10% in the giveaway forum and I got only your 2 threads. Can you tell me how you search, just so I can see if I can do something to make it easier? I am attaching the screenshot. This is by searching both the post title and the body, if I search only the title I am getting just the "November 10% Blog Income…" post.

Why not just a Google Custom Search with the "site:yakezie.com/forum" limitation. It'd work fine for the public boards.

Haha – I'm sur eI probably broke some of the Ten Commandments in my first month, but I think I might be rounding into shape.
On this one:
"PERFECT LIST the problem is that those it applies to will be too dense to understand it lol
(damn it did that violate #7)"
I think you're fine. The golden rule is praise individually, criticize as a group. You nailed it. (I like to criticize personally on occasion, but that doesn't mean I ignore my own advice…)

I think the "%" was the thing causing my issue. I completely forgot that that would throw off the code. Lesson learned. Thanks Suba.

I am soooo with you. You pretty much covered all of the reasons I only check in twice a week now instead of 12 times a day…

Thanks. I meant threads. But even that can get cumbersome. For example, I wanted some additional clarification on how to best launch a challenger blog when I'm already a member. The obvious search result pointed me to 'Yakezie Challenger Forum' which is 70+ pages and growing. I'm sure the info I was looking for was in there somewhere but to be able to have particular posts come up, not just the threads, would have helped a lot, and I didn't have the resources to read all 70 pages to get to the info I wanted, so I eventually started e-mailing a couple of people until I got the info.

Sandy, you cracked me up! I monitor the forum and try to keep up with conversations (got behind over xmas) but don't do any serious quality control because it's not really my place to interfere in that way.
Sadly the public forums are open to…. the public and at large they are quite an unsavory bunch. Even though out little small corner of the net is tucked away many of them manage to wander in and upset our little Utopia!
I guess it's just the fact of the matter with the public side of the forum and maybe it could be good to integrate an FAQ as suggested and try to force new members to read all that.
Also if the public side is annoying maybe a private bloggers lair could be started for members only? If there is enough call for that we could see what Sam and other vertical leaders think….

As a new challenger, I hope I did a good job introducing myself (put up a post to do so). I definitely did enough reading prior to taking the challenge to know that this community was one that I should respect, especially the members who have built it up.
Many forums do have a pinned/sticky post on forum etiquette. Each forum is like a new country; you gotta learn the customs.
My guess is the people who complain about money didn't do enough research. I am obsessed with online publishing, so I've read a TON of articles.
The best thing I learned in 2011 was to temper my expectations.

Maybe I should just hotkey "yes your alexa numbers will go down". I still remember how daunting and embarrassed I was in the beginning. The encouragement does help.
