Hey everyone,

In an effort to increase the number of comments I get on my blog moneyedup.com I've changed all comments to be dofollow links.  If you make a comment the link juice will get passed on to your site.

I also implemented a comment leader section in the sidebar that will list the top 7 commenters for the month.  It will reset each month.  That list is dofollow also.

I'm not going to advertise this feature on the blog because I want to keep the spam as low as possible.

In case anyone is interested, the two plugins I used to do this are:

Dofollow wordpress plugin

My blog is dofollow everywhere as well (with commentLuv to boot now).   I think people have taken the "nofollow" a little far and have basically applied it to every link within their site.  Do unto others as you wish to do unto you.  I honestly think we have better tools to combat spam than a "dofollow" attribute (does that even prevent spammers?).

I've never specified do follow or no follow (I'm down with do follow)…but do I have do follow on my blog? (lot's of do's in that sentence…)

I installed Do Follow as well as Commentluv…and keyword luv, and the top commenters plugin. I have seen a rise in the number of spammers, but my traffic has increased as well, so I can't say how much spam is do to being do follow.

Comments on Wordpress are nofollow by default.  I just looked at your blog and they are set to nofollow.  Installing the dofollow plugin I linked to above would switch all your external links to dofollow but as other people are saying, there will be an increase of spammy comments for you to moderate.  I've already had to delete a few just in the last 24 hours.

I started thinking last night that as other people find out the comments are dofollow there will be an increase in traffic from people wanting to comment.  Most of those people are probably the types to have the Alexa toolbar installed so this might be another good way to improve your Alexa ranking.  I'll try pay attention to see if I can tell any difference.

Dofollow and commentluv are guaranteed to make you targets for spammers.   That's a combination they go looking for, especially on low-traffic blogs where it's easy to become a top commenter.

Yeah, I've actually seen in WP Stats that people have done a particular search to look for do follow and comment blogs with certain keywords.

I would also add conditional Captcha if I were you – 2 reasons

1)  Cut down on Spam

2)  Get those you want out of spam jail (which is where I ended up when I commented on your site this past weekend)

Thank you Moneyedup!

I think I will install the Conditional Captcha; I know a lot of Yakezie commenters on my blog end up in spam jail, and that must be frustrating!
