Often I get included in various newsletter (often from fellow yakezies as well) But never saw any visit originating from a newsletter. Do GA and WP count them as direct visit when someone click on the article link in a newsletter?

I see referrals from e-mail clients in my logs – a couple of recent ones are "36ohk6dgmcd1n.yom.mail.yahoo.net" and "bl167w.blu167.mail.live.com"
I don't see any from g-mail though. Maybe analytics treats those differently?

If you're talking about those "daily's" from paper.li I can't say that I've seen any reference to them.

Yes the same thing Eric. I think GA treats them as direct visit. Jeremy those sources might be your email subscribers clicking the mail updates.

I think the paper.li service just picks up your tweets, so you won't see any reference to them in Analytics or WP stats.
I'm not sure if anyone has ever clicked through to my site from there, so I can't say what that would look like.

Ok, then no, it wouldn't be a direct visit from twitter because the link in the tweet would be to paper.li/user and then the link to the blog post should have the referrer as paper.li not twitter.

If people are not clicking then what's point in publishing the news letter?

As Jeff stated, I don't see a point in it at all. I've been included in a few of those, but once I saw what they really were, I stopped looking. I doubt that normal readers go there to find content, so I'm really not sure of the purpose. However, a number of Yakezie members publish them, so maybe they can explain the purpose.

I agree – I was always wondering what the point was… almost to the point of starting a thread asking what the purpose of these is. If someone can shed some light on it, I would be open to hearing the benefits! :)
