I'm starting to see Twitter as a much higher referrer. I see t.co in my analytics as the second highest traffic source after organic search.
I've recently been trying to do more Twitter promotion, RTs follow the suggestions they give (I am following the lead of Financially Consumed http://financiallyconsumed.com…..nish-line/)
What are your thoughts on commenting on posts via Twitter instead of on the blog page? It seems like the only negative would be not getting a link back but the huge positive is the increased traffic.
Do you see Twitter becoming the best source of traffic after search as well?

I honestly have not put too much stock in Twitter traffic, although I know I should, and I know it is powerful.
I have a hard time keeping track of all of the different places to publicize and network. In the past I have only focused on Facebook, but I know that I need to work more on Twitter.

I use su.pr to help promote posts on Twitter and StumbleUpon and that has worked well. The su.pr site also keeps track of traffic which is very helpful.

@Elle – When you use su.pr, does it actually direct traffic back to your site, or will Google register the traffic since it is under the stumbleupon.com domain name?
Just curious, if you have seen a traffic spike from using su.pr?
Thanks!

I do both. Twitter I use for sharing links RTing, as well as chatting throughout the day to keep up engagement. Commenting on posts directly is better in my opinion since there is no character limit and thoughts can be fully formed and expressed. The value of communication to me is more important than the link back in terms of comments especially considering the fact that 100 comments = 1 link back in terms of analytics (although the exposure from the links is a different story). That being said, I agree completely that the referral traffic has the potential to be much more substantial from twitter.

When I examine Google Analytics I see the traffic for my site. I've seen some spikes with it on Couple Money, but it has really spiked traffic for my Married Food site. I think the food topic is more suited for stumbles rather than finances (who knew :P). Travel posts do well on stumble as well if that helps.

Good point. 140 characters is a bit limiting.

Definitely interesting to see which type of articles tend to spike more. I've submitted a few articles, so i will be interested to see if any of them bring in some traffic. Thanks for sharing!

Personally, I find facebook traffic to be much better. It seems like you have to tweet really often just for your tweets to have an effect (traffic wise)

I don't get much traffic from Twitter, even though I have over 1,000 followers. I now have a VA (my wife) helping me with commenting and Twitter interaction, so hopefully, I will see a surge from both.

Latisha, I think they are complimentary to each other. I'll need both to grow my blog. If you happen to have thousands of followers each tweet will bring much more traffic than each comment.

Well said Eric. I totally agree. I do both but prefer commenting. I guess because I am talker and like the no limit.
