I just held a contest at 99designs for a new site logo. I'm down to 19 designs and can't decide for the life of me which one to choose!

You guys interested in helping? Check out the contest and let me know which ones you like or don't like! I'd like to make a decision by the end of next week.

My two favorites are #48 and #55. I like the curved lines in #48, but the pie chart in #55 is more finance-related. I would go with #48 because it's a better design.

You wouldn't know, I started this thread then immediately made a decision. And it was #48. :)

I ended up taking a screenshot of the site, removing the current header, then using screenshots to paste each design. Once I could view them that way, it was pretty easy to narrow it down. I ended up staying with an abstract design instead of something finance related, though I did really love that pie chart!

I'm waiting now for the designer to upload files, then I'll have a full day of switching out my various avatars. I'm very excited! I think it will make a huge difference to have an actual logo instead of the ghetto one I made myself.

Congrats on a great choice!  Elegantly simple.

I feel like my design is over the top sometimes, but so am I, so it works.  Hahaha!

Cool face lift!  Did you enjoy the entire logo picking experience?

I did enjoy the experience overall, but there were a few aspects I didn't love.

- Three days passed before I got any entries. I was freaking out and wanted to get my money back, then they suddenly started pouring in. I gave specific feedback for every single design, which apparently helps drive designers to a contest. I also guaranteed to award the prize once I had a design I even remotely liked. I ended up with over 100 entries, but it was stressful getting them!

- There is a lot of animosity toward sites like 99designs in the design community. I got some pretty hateful PMs! Basically, you are asking designers to use their time and effort to create a design that they may not ever be paid for. Naturally many people feel this is degrading and insulting.

- Some of the designers were extremely upset that I gave them positive feedback but didn't choose them as the contest winner. One in particular accused the winner of using clipart, though she ended up not being able to prove it. I mean, sure, the shapes in my graphic aren't exactly a new concept, but I couldn't find any evidence that someone else was using ellipses in that exact placement in a logo. And neither could the one throwing such a fit about it.

- Most of the designers are from other countries and don't speak much English. This made it difficult at times to communicate what I liked and didn't like, or what changes I wanted to see.

As I said, I was very pleased with the experience as a whole. I love my logo! I think the whole site looks different and more polished. The designer gave me several versions at no extra cost – with and without the tagline, words only, graphic only, the graphic on the side, and the graphic above the words. She was very intuitive given the fact that I had no clue what I wanted, and she made multiple revisions to make the logo work for the site. I've offered her the opportunity to redesign my whole site at some point in the future when I can afford it!

Gosh I talk a lot. ;) The tl;dr version: There were some negatives but I'm happy with the way it turned out.

I like the upward feel of the logo…it feels "moving' and that you are climbing out of debt.

Good choice. Nice branding with the elipses.

I haven't used 99designs since they simplified the options (used to be any dollar amount, not just three choices) but Elance has recently taken my preferred spot.  Many designers there will make three to five concepts for a reasonable budget, from which you can pick a direction and go with it.  Problem is that you have only one designer, whereas 99designs will get you many, many designers.

I really like it!  I'm getting a blog makeover next month (in the designer's queue) and can hardly wait.

The new logo looks great.  Getting a design through 99 Designs sounds like an interesting experience and a great way to get a good logo.  If I ever decide to upgrade my logo I'll consider them although it is more money than I prefer to spend.  Being a Tight Fisted Miser I got my logo done at Fiverr.com for five bucks.

You're right – it's pretty expensive! Luckily I didn't actually pay for it. My dad owns a photography business on the side and has asked several times if I had a good logo for the site (he uses 99designs). He doesn't even know the site name or what I blog about; he just knows I have one. When he found out I was using a logo I made myself, he freaked out and told me he would pay for a contest to cover all the photo editing I've done for him. "Your image is everything with any kind of business. If your logo looks like crap, people will think your site is crap. Trust me, you'll never regret having a good logo." LOL. Pretty awesome considering he has no clue what I'm doing!

I've not been satisfied the couple of times I've used fiverr.  Anyone know good alternatives between fiverr and 99 Designs?

You have to keep your expectations low when you are paying five bucks for a logo.  My logo doesn't look anywhere near as good as a professional logo but the logo I paid five dollars for was better than what I could make myself with my extremely limited graphics skills.  If I had the money to pay for a 99 Designs logo I might pay somebody to teach me how to make my own logos.
