I've wanted to start a podcast for a long time now. I get a lot of college aged folks on my blog, and from my research, many of them prefer to listen to audio, rather than read through an article.
I've looked around online a good bit trying to figure ot the best way to go about this. I'm working on getting a microphone, and I have already downloaded, and played around with, the free Audacity software that seemed to be recommended everywhere.
I'm still looking for the best ways to host the podcast on my site, and to get any advice from any of you who have seen successful podcasts, or who have done them yourselves.
Any help would be awesome!

at fincon11 the podcast answer man gave a talk – you should be able to find his slides on the fincon website, and he's got a great website of his own. I'd suggest starting there.

I use the PowerPress plugin for my DJ site podcast. It is free and works well.

Wow. He does have some great resources. Thanks for pointing that out!

I will definitely check that one out. I was looking into PodPress…so it looks like this is an upgrade from PodPress. Thanks!

You can host your files on your website (I also sing the praises of Powerpress), but be careful. Even "unlimted bandwith" hosting will have issues (see post). Also as you go looking for a microphone, be careful with USB stuff. Number one, they are almost all condensor microphones which pick up a lot of "room noise." Look for a dynamic microphone (Like a Sure SM59 $99) and a small mixer ($60) and you're good to go. The best (as in headache free) to record is to record into a portable recorder, and then do post editing in a software program like Audacity (or Sony Acid, Garageband on the Mac).
I typically recommend getting a media host such as Libsyn.com or Blubrry.com
If you need more help let me know. I'm also a podcast equipment reseller.

That is some excellent information. I'd like to try a few podcast sessions before I invest a lot of money into equipment, but I might come to you when I reach that point. Thanks for the tips!
