No. I submitted a claim, got authority, then authority dissapeared, I freaked out, then it came back, and miraculously I ended up in top 100 Finance Blogs. I don't do anything. I have no idea how they determine the ranking.

I am starting to think that it results from my carnival submission service. Because I am aggressive in submitting to carnivals, I have lots of links coming in to my site and Technorati loves this.

If I remember correctly, Technorati heavily weights your "authority" on relevant incoming links that are also weighted based on recency. So, a flood of recent incoming links from other finance blogs will likely give you a good boost, while a slow trickle is likely to increase your authority some, but not give the same boost. Same goes for a flood of finance blogs links vs a bunch of knitting blogs.
