We are on our way to do an interview on Fox & Friends in NYC and we are super excited. We will be on Monday morning at 6:50am EST. We have been featured in local news before but not national news and that is why I need your help. Here are some questions I have:
1. How can I be best prepared for higher than usual traffic? The last thing I want is for the site to go down.
2. I have a friend who uses Safari and it was only showing the Mobile version. Any thoughts?
3. Can you take a look at my site and let me know if you have any suggestions that I could implement to make the site better or easier to navigate before the interview?
Congratulations on your upcoming appearance! I just checked out your site, and I truly think it looks great. I looked hard for something to recommend, but honestly, you've done a great job of organizing the site, it looks good and it's easy to navigate. I checked out your site on Safari and I got the mobile version of the site, which also looks excellent.
As far as the bump in traffic, could you contact your host's customer service and let them know what's coming up? Maybe a friendly tech can move you to a better server in anticipation of the traffic. It seems like it would be worth a try, even if you have to pay a little extra to ensure that everything is in place.
Your site seems to load slow. I would make sure your cacheing is up to date (Supercache or W3TC), make sure you have a CDN (if you don't already), and let your host know.
Also, I would make a special post welcoming Fox and Friends viewers with an big opt-in form so you can capture the traffic for the future.
2. Email subscribe box very prominent. I would even suggest a popup box . If you want to go with a free one first like Mail Chimp, that's fine, but it you're going to be serious with your newsletter going forward, I would go ahead and sign up for Aweber. I've wrote in the past one of the biggest mistakes I did starting off blogging was not gathering email addresses. This could be a huge (one in a lifetime) opportunity. Capitalize on it as much as you can.

Hey Jeff! Yeah, we signed up for Mail Chimp earlier today and did an email blast to let people know about the interview. I will definitely look into Aweber, because I have heard great things from several people now.
I will play around with the pop-up option and see how that goes. Right now it is just the first thing people see when they get on but the pop up might be a better way to go for just tomorrow.

Will definitely work on the load time issue, thanks for the heads up!
Congrats on getting on the national AND local news!
Did you just get contacted by the reps or did you send out press releases?!
Thanks!
A producer from Fox News emailed me directly. I asked him how he found us and he said through Yahoo Finance or AOL but he wasn't sure. My strategy is to use each appearance to get the next. I just email reporters, producers and news tip email address that I think would be interested.
Thanks for that info Deacon! That's good to hear that you get a positive response when you email them!

that is so exciting Deacon, congratulations! I am with hostgator and hosting is unlimited so I guess it wouldn't impact the website but the best is to check with your provider to make sure.
I use chrome and your site shows in full width with no sidebar which it didn't before, so I can't see social buttons or email subscription

Thanks Pauline! We were doing some site maintenance, so that might be why you were having issues with Chrome. When you get a chance, check it again and let me know if you are still having issues.
Congrats, nice exposure and piece. Whose idea was it to shave the beard? Haha.
If I had it my way I would have the beard every day. But my wife's face is super sensitive so the beard had to go. The sacrifices we make for the one's we love :)
