I notice that most people seem to still post almost as frequently, but lower the standard of their posts. I beleive that you would be better served posting less frequently, but keeping your usual high standards, or even raising them. I wrote a post about it here…

I don't know the exact answer here, but my focus has been to go for quality, and miss out on quantity during certain periods if I have too. I've noticed that the really good blogs I follow are always high quality, which I think is what keeps them reputable.

Just my 2 cents.

It's better to take your time and reduce post frequency if it means you can increase your post quality, I agree. I think it takes a while of 'no posts' for people to stop visiting or whatever, so you're safe enough to take the pressure off a bit if it means you can then turn the time into something that readers will value.

I agree with you. Quality over quantity.

Without a doubt.. You can only survive on "blog fluff posts" for so long..

Eventually you are going to need to have some original content.

I've definitely been focusing on more high quality posts and even going back to update old posts that were light on substance.

I try to maintain a inventory of articles that are scheduled to post.  By staying a head by 3-5 weeks, it takes the pressure off you.

I too recently went back and updated old posts on another blog. I realized I was writing for quantity back then, but have since changed direction. I feel a lot better about things since I've made those changes.

I'd definitely get a good inventory of posts going (which I haven't done). If you think about it, it let's you focus more on quality since a pool gives you the option of rushing or needing to post.

If I'm too busy to post one week, I just ask for guest posts. But I also usually have an inventory of posts to put up because I don't write my posts the night before I post them.

Thats a good point -you can avoid this problem to a certain point by having posts in hand. I have considered going back through old posts to improve them – maybe I will set aside a day or 2 to do just that. Yes, good quality guest posts can also also help. Just remember, quality over quantity folks!

Like Daisy said, I believe an inventory is key.  You never want to post something to simply fill space.  With all the blogs that people have to choose from, quality is king.

Hi Jon,

I don't think standards are lowered for most bloggers. I think that some topics can just be covered better than others.
