So I got an email this morning from Google regarding retiring Adsense for hosted accounts.
Can anyone explain what that actually means?

After googling (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), it looks like Google used to allow people to put Adsense on unused domains. So essentially you could make money from ads on a domain that had no content whatsoever.
Like when you accidentally put .com on a .net address, you get one of those generic pages with ads or links. Those are going away so people can't make money as easily from typos or frequently searched terms. I hope that makes sense.

Ahhh I think you're right. That's what I got from researching as well. Meh. I didn't even know I had undeveloped domains in adsense.
Google knows EVERYTHING.

It might've been a generic message that they send to all adsense accounts. Those parked domains will still make a lot of money since they were very profitable before adsense tried to get involved. The people who do well with them often have hundreds or thousands of parked domains.

It looks like it only applies to domains hosted by AdSense. If you park them yourself, or park with godaddy, you can still run the ads.

How do people make money from parked domains if they don't use adsense? I have a couple I have bought that I am considering developing in the future (oh why oh why must buying domain names be so easy and cheap???) and it would be nice to do something useful with them while I think about their future.

I had a parked domain thorough AdSense at one point but nothing now.
Single Saver, your registrar probably provides an option, though there are others as well. You just set your nameservers to the parking server after you sign up. It is pretty easy to do.

This makes me feel better. I thought I was the only one that received this email and was doing something wrong. Shew -
