In my quest to write "Epic sh$t" <inspired from Fincon11>, I shared a personal story on the blog today.
I talk about the motivation I had to give up my securities license, start my own firm and give up a considerable amount of income in the process.
It's one of the biggest risks I've taken in my life but I'm so glad that you've done it.
Appreciate any feedback on it. Read it here.
Also please share any times that you've taken a big risk to pursue your dreams. I live for this stuff!
P.S. Fellow Yakezian, Sunil, from Make Extra Money Blog offered a guest post yesterday that talked about his transition from his corporate job to being an online entrepreneur. Very cool stuff.

Crazy! At this point, the only thing I'm giving up is television (which I found out I really don't care about —what a waste of time). I can't quite fathom giving up the day job yet. Maybe after 2012 I'll consider it. ;)

Fantastic article! Way to put yourself out there. Giving up 36k per year is a huge step – more power to you! You're definitely going places. Keep up the great work!

I gave up a stable job, good income, friends, my country. I crossed the ocean, came to the U.S. not speaking any English. I had $200 in my pocket (the rest of my money I left to my grandmother so that she could pay for our apartment and her life back home.) So… a long story short… I gave up one life in order to start another … in pursuit of happiness of course.

My biggest risk was when (early 30s) I started investing in income property. Fortunately, it turned into a business and helped me achieve financial freedom. I added businesses that were more cash flow oriented and built up a small empire. After 14-15 years, I started to sell it off and go in a completely different direction. I did consulting and now teaching. Closer than you realize. As I near retirement (5.5 years away), I look forward to volunteering, taking classes and blogging.

Great post, and I admire what you've done! I definitely haven't given up anything close to being worth $36k a year. I am planning to give up my job next year, but you've got me beat until then

I have given up a 'career' to be home with the kids. Got a lot of guff from people about it, but oh well.
I work part time again (and from home), but have given up a lot of income to be more flexible and be able to do things with and for the family.
Being conservative financially has been huge for our family as I have been the caregiver to my dad, grandparents and obviously my own children. If I had to work full time the whole time, it would have been so stressful. So I give I didn't really give up anything, I gained time with people I love.

Haven't really given up anything but an hour of sleep every day. Not planning to give up anything else as of now

So glad it all worked out for you in the end. That's great. Risk is tough though. You just never know what is going to happen.

Great post Jeff. I would also be interested in how you decided which broker dealer would represent you. How did you find the broker dealer and what are some things to look for in a good one.
