I am working on an ebook and have 2,847 words so far (more of a working outline at this point). What is a good length for a how to ebook? 10,000 words? 15,000? Also, how do you decide on the pricing? Looking to those with more knowledge on this than I have. Thanks.

I asked the same question a while ago and the answer was that somewhere from 15K to 30K+ is enough. I guess whatever it takes to say everything you have to say should be enough for any type of the book. Good Luck with this project!

I think it depends more on the price. For instance, I passed on an ebook earlier today because it was only 74 pages (Guessing about 30k words at 350 words per page) and it was on "sale" for $67. But, I might have paid $20 for it. Of course, if it's free, you can do whatever you want. ;) Just keep in mind that unless it has a very high perceived value, the price should probalby be consistent with the length.
One other note. I'm sure that there were plenty of people who saw that book as a value at $67 and bought it. Others who were desperate for what it supposedly delivered (I don't know if it did or not since I didn't buy it). And there are probably quite a few who passed on it too.

Price: it is always a very interesting question. The answer follows this question: Where do you position your ebook?
if you think it's previmum stuff that will generate cash for the reader, I don't see a problem selling it at $100 (the same way Porshe will sell their cars at a huge price).
If you just want to do quick sale, I'd say that $15 to $20 is usually the price for most ebooks.
Lenght: it depends on what you want to say… I think that 10 pages ebook can be as good as a 100 pages ebook. Don't focus on pages and number or words; focus on content. Make an outline, write everything you need to write per section and build your ebook.
just my 2 cents ;-)
Mike.

Mike's got it down! I agree that length doesn't really matter, it's all about the value. Are you going to show me how to do something from start to finish? Save me several hours of research?
One last comment: nothing sells better on a sales page than a product priced at $7. Whether that is $7, $17, or $197 is up to you. It's way easier to lower prices than it is to raise them, though.

Ted Nicholas made the idea famous. I've read quite a few studies on salesletters etc, and though I can't point directly to them, I do know that prices ending in 7 worked best on sales pages, but not other types of sales material. So, where $497 might ring your register on a salesletter, it won't perform nearly as well on TV, or in some other pitch that isn't written copy.
YMMV. If you find anything on the topic, let me know. I find these kinds of things super interesting.
