What Is Considered A Good Domain Authority?

Howdy Folks,

Besides mozRank, which I like since it updates more frequently and is less bias, what are your thoughts on "Domain Authority" and it's relevance?

From the little I've read, the score is between 0-100, with the higher the scores getting logarithmically harder and harder to achieve e.g. going from 30 to 40 is much easier than going from 60 to 70.

In your opinion, what is considered a "good" domain authority number?  And based on this number, what do you think is a "good" link structure?

Anybody want to try and explain in simple terms the domain and page authority differences and which is more important?

Here's a handy site to check: http://www.check-domains.com/website-analysis/website-analyzer.php

ps

Regards,

Sam

I read through this: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-se…..-authority and learned quite a bit. It is an interesting view into out sites. It looks like a handful of Yakezie sites are in the 40-50 range.

I don't know what a "good" range is, but most of the time, I am asked about DA 35 and more…rarely 40 or more…

Ditto.  35 seems to be a good benchmark and if you get above that into the upper 40s, or even into the low/mid 50s you are doing quite well.  If you get into the 60s your site is rockin' it.

I had a couple of declines because my DA is less than 50. Its 46, very close though.

Thanks for the color on ranges. So perhaps if one has a DA of 50 or better, that is a level where one can really highlight to potential clients with 35 as a base case min.

This is encouraging.  I just checked ours and it is a 45, so I'm pretty pumped with that metric (although, as we've recently seen with the whole PR fiasco, it appear metrics can change very quickly).

I've been asked what our DA is a few times from folks other than bloggers.

Great thread – I have often wondered about this as well. My thoughts have been that if you get over 50, that's "good." Since I can get a site into the low 40s within 4 months (PITR), it doesn't seem like that big of an achievement. My main site (20s) is nowhere near 50 though even with twice as long working on it, so that's kind of how I am judging it.

Like SPF said, 60 is rocking it – I assume it takes 1-2 year to get up to this, if not more.

Domain Authority vs. Page Authority anyone?  Which do you think is more important?

I would think it would be harder to have a higher Page Authority, since there are so many pages in a website, and not all will be as powerful as Domain Authority?

Interesting question from Sam. I also would like to know that too: page vs domain. My page authority is waaaay higher than my domain. "Page authority" – what does it mean exactly and what page in particular? Home page?

Domain Authority.  Page authority is only relevant for 1 unique page.  DA for the whole site.  For the most part it should be harder to find a page with a higher PA then the sites DA, but it's not impossible.  Just depends on how authoritative i.e. keyword specific backlinks the unique page has from quality sites.

SEOmoz.com has four great videos that explain it all.  The first two (part 1, part 2) cover link metrics.  The second two cover DA and PA metrics and is a bit more technical.  Well worth watching if you're into SEO info.

Good basic videos JP. Thanks for highlighting.  What you say on Domain vs. Page make sense.  Here's the other video straight about DA and PA

I'm sure it will take me a while to get my domain authority up, currently at 27 but I know I started at 25.  thanks for the explanation.

My stats on CheckDomain.com are pretty much just 1's and zero's across the board..

Perhaps this is only because we are a few months old, and I shouldn't worry about it.

I think we are doing pretty well, as we are getting good traffic and our Alexa is <150k.

Of course, our google pagerank is still zero. (I get this one).

MozRank, Domain MozRank, and Ext Links are also zero. (I think they update sporadically, like google PR).

Our Domain *and* Page Authority are both one.

More concerning, The social networking side doesn't give us any credit for twitter, facebook, or g+.

We have been fairly active in all 3, so I wonder if somehow we aren't getting credit where credit is due.

Yes, I meant to say that it would take 1-2 years of working on the site and creating links to the site. ;)
