The best money  I spent on my blog was buying the Thesis theme.  I bought it before I'd really made any money and it was a leap of faith.

The second best (which has been the best financially) is asking Crystal to help manage advertising.

Hiring Crystal to handle my advertising has been huge for me.  I don't have to spend time dealing with advertising requests and my ad revenue has gone way up…double win!

Hiring Crystal for my advertising was probably the best money spent. Although I don't know if that should count since she works on commission.  A few years ago I hired someone to optimize my Adsense on a commission basis and that worked out very well too.

Thank you so much for the kind words!!!

I am very happy with the money I spent on my logo design. I have also been pleased with my upgraded HootSuite so that I can schedule bulk tweets.

I think I want to hire Crystal next!

OOo…I second that. Buying a Mac a few months ago has made blogging so much more enjoyable. :)

I also just finished upgrading to a VPS last month and I think it was worth the money. I like knowing that I don't have to worry about GoDaddy taking my site offline anytime I get a traffic boost.

Best $ moves – Better hosting (each time I've upgraded it's been better), a paid theme (Thesis), and a professional header (via Peter at Logos for Websites).

Also buying my Mac.

Best expense so far has been moving off of blogger and spending 10 bucks a month for Hostgator.
Next I would have to say buying a digital design package that is basically photoshop for inexperienced people. I've used this to create multiple banners, graphics for posts, etc.

But to date, I really haven't spent that much on the blog. I really don't want to spend too much money until I start to see consistent income. A move to thesis or genesis might be next.
What is the digital design package you purchased? Was it easy to use?

Great topic, Suba! I'm looking forward to reading everyone's responses here and seeing more come in.

As for me, the best thing I did with the blog was just buying the domain and taking the plunge. I had never owned a website before, but just made the inexpensive purchase and got going.

The worst? I probably could have spent more time looking at premium themes. I like Thesis, Genesis, and actually like Headway too. So, it was my lack of investment here that I think about:)

Really, my biggest investment by far has been time. I started it on a lark and as a hobby, and my interest level just took off from there. Time is valuable, and I've invested way more than I ever thought I would. It's been great though. Going forward, I'd like to explore getting some help with a few certain aspects of running a blog. Spending time on more fun aspect of the blog, while outsourcing a few other parts of it, might be a good move. Plus, many bloggers try to be jacks of all trades. Might be better to get specialized help on some things as necessary.

Squirrelers and all-I concur. Ditto, everything you said. Spent more time than money, as I have a propensity to want to do it all—- and that is impossible!

Hard to say, but the contests have been really great at boosting subscriptions and readership.

Sounds like a lot of great praise for Crystal! I'm already outsourcing carnival submissions so maybe I'll try advertising for some time!

For me it is outsourcing stuff I don't know/do

1)  Jesse from PF Firewall is a freaking animal freelancer – I am working with actually RIGHT this moment to fix my site that is broken lol (literally as I write this post).

2)  Using Melissa from MomsPlans – she does all my carnival work.  AMAZING money spent.

I'll second this — haven't hired Jesse but he's been a great help whenever I've needed it, and Melissa from MomsPlans is doing a great job with my carnivals.
