All,
I'm gearing up to release my first info product and want to get your feedback on affiliate programs and what makes a good one. Better yet… what affiliate program made you really want to be involved and promote it.
Let's get into the questions…
Small facts: I have a credit product which will be priced at $99.97
Does a 30 day money back guarantee matter to you? Should it be shorter or longer?
Would you want to thoroughly review the product first?
Would you want fixed rate per sale of percentage?
How much per sale would make you promote a product
When promoting an affiliate product do you want banner ads, text link or pre-written affiliate articles?
What are your thoughts on two-tier affiliate programs?
What do you feel is an adequate cookie duration?
What things do you wish your affiliate program had?
I'm open to any and all suggestions.. My goal is to create a product that yakezie group will be willing to offer to their readers.
Thanks for reading!

Can't wait to see your product! Here are a few of my thoughts.
1. I prefer a free trial versus a money back guarantee as a buyer, but I can see your point as a seller. I think the length depends on the product. 30 days could work, but longer or shorter could as well based on the product.
2. I will only promote products I've reviewed/used/add value to me and my readers
3. Does it matter if fixed rate or percentage if you have one price point?
4. How much all depends on how much value it adds…more value and more I like it, the less I need to promote it because I would do it anyway
5. Banner ads and text links
6. Two-tier affiliate programs are fine, I think it is polite to give more to big-time affiliates, but not mandatory
7. 30-60 day duration
8. Don't have an answer for this one for you

Robert,
Thanks for the input.
"2. I will only promote products I've reviewed/used/add value to me and my readers"
In my particular product I have 1 info product that includes 7 free bonuses that are related to the product. Would you want to review all 8 things or just the main product?
"3. Does it matter if fixed rate or percentage if you have one price point?"
"6. Two-tier affiliate programs are fine, I think it is polite to give more to big-time affiliates, but not mandatory"
Good point.. I was already thinking of providing a bigger piece of the pie for people who bring in more revenue.
I don't think I asked the right question here.. I should have asked what percentage commission or fixed rate would be fair for a product selling for $99.97. I'm hearing 50% would be enough.

Good luck to you. I'm sure that what people look for is different at different price points. I personally wouldn't try to sell such an expensive product; I wouldn't buy such an expensive product, and I'd never recommend that somebody buy something that I wouldn't.
As far as percentage versus dollar amount, I'd list whichever number sounds better. 5% of a $10 product sounds better than $.50, but $5 from a $100 product sounds better than 5%
I think a text link is essential, but having images for affiliates to use makes life a lot easier for them. Basically, anything that makes it easier for affiliates to sell your product makes it easier easier to sell your product.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Edward,
I found your comment interesting "I personally wouldn't try to sell such an expensive product; I wouldn't buy such an expensive product".
Can you elaborate on this point? What makes $99.97 too expensive?

Mostly that I'm a cheap SOB. I buy very little that costs more than $10. Other than utilities, insurance & rent, if it cost more than $50, it is going to be a physical product that I will be using for years, like a PC, phone, or car.

Dom, one important thing you should consider is effectively explaining the WHY. As in why someone should buy the product and why someone should listen to you.
With a credit product, the best product is someone who works/worked at FICA or TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. As such, I would talk about your experience working for these bureaus and/or tell your story of how you might have had damaged credit and fixed it, or how you have steller 800+ credit.
The best way to learn is to just put yourself out there and just try. Good luck!

Sam,
This is great advice! I'm split testing several sales pages now my ideal customers as we speak :-) All of which include my story.
