Hey Everyone, New to the challenge and new to blogging in general although I have run a few websites in the past.

If you could give one tip to a new blogger, what would it be? What words of wisdom most helped you as a new blogger?

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!

I'd say a good bit of advice would be for new bloggers to be patient.  A lot of them start out like gangbusters, find out they might be able to make a little money, and then really get impatient – ultimately burning out.  I think it's best to find a sustainable level of time you can invest in blogging, and happily stay with it over time.

Welcome to Yakezie. The best advice I can give you is to commit to the long haul. Blogging can be a long, dreary slog. This community is wonderful. The people here are among some of the most supportive I've come across in my 9 years of blogging. Make use of this community!

I would encourage you to enjoy what you write about.  Many people start writing for the wrong reasons, trying to focus on keywords or hot topics of the day or mimicking other bloggers, all which will likely lead to boredom.  Write about stuff that's meaningful for you and you'll continue to want to write, which is the most important thing in my book.

Wow, thanks for all the responses so far! Squirrelers and CF, Definitely hoping I can be patient and planning on doing this for the long haul. I realize that this will require a ton of effort and work to become successful at blogging, but it's also smart to realize to go at a slower pace sometimes so as to not burnout. Ha, MC definitely am not quitting the day job…that would certainly put some serious pressure on blogging :p Beagle, Good tip on enjoying what you write about. I think that's why I ended my last two sites, I really didn't have any interest in the topics after awhile so I eventually just stopped trying. I actually care about financial stuff and have a seemingly unlimited number of topics to write on, so third try's a charm!

Write amazing content with a unique perspective and promote it.  If you don't write amazing content, people won't stick around.

Part 2 is don't give up if not every piece is a hit.  It takes a lot of time – which is why there is a 6 month challenge.  Just keep at it!

I'd say it's important to commit to a schedule and work it like a job. If you can train yourself to put in the same amount of work every week and not deviate, you're more likely to be successful.

I would say to not give up even though you're seeing little traffic and no income. It takes time to build all that stuff.

In the beginning, everyone starts off with much excitement and anticipation and they find themselves discouraged because there is too much gap between what they expected to reality.

So my advice is this… don't expect to see any traction for one year.  This is not to say expect the best.  Work your butt off and do your due diligence, but this is not a sprint, it's a marathon.

Thanks for the great responses! Common theme I'm seeing is that blogging will take time to build a following, and I really need to treat this like another job and dedicate myself to it if i want to become successful.

Keep the advice coming!
