I'm wanting to re-design FamilyMoneyValues and would like your thoughts on what to think about/do. Its built with Blogger.  http://blog.familymoneyvalues.com

Here are the things I am considering at this point:

1) Need a logo – something that is simple, denotes lasting family values and easy to remember

2) Need to organize my categories – they are a mess

3) Would like a bigger font for the posts

4) My face book widget needs to be futher up and right now I think it is broken

5) Want the design to be more professional looking

Please let me know what isn't working for you on my blog now – from colors to content and back around.  Don't be shy, I've got a tough skin.

Those who have recentlly done re-designs, I'd love to hear any hint and tips you might have about the process as well.

Thanks in advance for reviewing it and making suggestions – you folks are great!

I would leave blogger for Wordpress. Best decision I ever made for my blogs.

Eric is right. wordpress is the way to go. also, just a word of advice, use black text on a white background. images, fonts, texts, all work way better with a white background.

Do you feel that Blogger holds you back in terms of rankings (Alexa, etc.)?  I would like to move back over to WordPress.

Also, do you lose page rank or search engine placement?

The answer is more of a "sort of" than a clear yes or no. You can do much more for SEO and have more control over your theme with Wordpress. You own the content and the hosting, rather than Google, so no one can bring down your site other than you. (A former Yakezie member's site was killed by Google one night and they would not say why or bring it back)

With better SEO, you can get better Alexa. It should not have a direct impact on PageRank right away, but better traffic means more natural links which leads to PageRank.

Thanks.  I do remember the 'kill' but I can't remember the site.  I actually back my blog up every week as I know that other sites will import Blogger format, so if that ever happened to me, I could re-create it elsewhere rather than lose everything.  At least that's the hope if that ever were to happen.

Good points though.  I'll have to move this more to the top of the to-do list.  Thanks!

I think your blog is great but one thing I find a bit of a pain is the commenting platform. I know blogger's isn't quite as seamless as wordpress but there are some options. Talk to 60K challenge. She uses blogger but her commenting platform is quite clean and easy.

Thanks, I'll check it out.  I appreciate you stopping by and commenting in spite of the issues you have with the platform.

I tried to leave a comment there, but it wouldn't take at all…..

I'd change the header, the content labeling strategy at the side and organize the social feeds. And I definitely agree on changing from blogger to wordpress.
