Title says it all. I'm thinking of starting a giveaway every month but want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck. What was your most successful giveaway or one you know of. What did they/you do special? How did you get the word out about your giveaway?

So let's see, probably the most successful giveaways that I have seen are ones that involve collaboration between multiple sites. I think this increases the traffic that the giveaway sees.
However, my FAVORITE giveaways are the ones that put a creative twist on things or have a higher purpose. As an example of a creative twist, Bob @ Christian PF is doing a giveaway where people put down what they want for Xmas, and then at the end of the giveaway, he'll send that gift to a specific person. I've also recently been trying to use a monthly giveaway to increase donations to charities that the readers are interested in.

Jacob,
I definitely have bookmarked your giveaways. I expressed to you already that I love the amount of detail you put into your giveaways. Thank you for the tip on implementing multiples sites and going for unique requirements. Excellent idea on bringing the user in even more by asking to put down what they want instead of restricting the giveaway to something like "a gift card"

Well, I'm only on my first one, so I'd have to say that it is my favorite so far! I agree that gift cards can be restrictive, but free is free, so you should always have some eager people.

I have found that the item's popularity, not it's "worth" is what determines how well the giveaways do. I know that giftcards and cash always do really well, but when you're giving away items, go for popularity not worth. For instance, last month I gave away a $17 scarf and it got well over 225 entries. This week I'm giving away a Crest 3D White Prize Pack (with whitening toothpaste and a whitestrips kit) and I don't think it'll do as well, women just loved that leopard print scarf I was giving away and the whitestrips aren't as cute I guess!
I post my giveaways on different blog giveaway roundups (some bloggers will advertise they do this) and on Online-sweepstakes.com and that usually gets the word out- oh ya, and on here of course!
I love the idea of a wishlist, that is awesome…I know that would be something I'd get excited about, I know readers must love it!

My most successful giveaways have involved:
1.) Larger prizes
2.) Use of Rafflecopter
3.) Promotion on Online-Sweepstakes
That's really about it…

Is there any trick to submitting at Online-Sweepstakes.com?
I added my giveaway to their directory using this link - http://www.online-sweepstakes……/addasweep/, but it doesn't seem to be showing up.
