I was wondering which resources you're using to find pictures for your blog posts. I've just been using istockphoto or dreamstime. Anyone have a good royalty free resource to find pictures?

I try to make as many pictures as possible on PowerPoint. It's digital Play Doh!

Awesome, thanks guys!
Just out of curiosity, how important do you think it is to find the right type of pictures for each blog post? What kind of priority do you give your pictures?

I search these forums for "pictures" - there are a number of threads that list picture sites (free and paid).

Flickr mostly. But a few have been graciously provided by friends who attend Comic Book Conventions & other events.

I get mine from Flickr, but I notice some people get some from Wikipedia.

I use Flikr as well. The easiest way to use it is go here: http://www.flickr.com/search/advanced/ and make sure to check the boxes at the bottom for pictures you're allowed to use.
Just make sure to put in attribution as this is required for Creative Commons

I'm trying to use more of my own photos this year.
I've used flickers common creative and wiki. I would like to learn how to use Powerpoint to create some inserts.
Hunter, can you write a how to blog post?

I like MorgueFile (all free to use) and Stock Xchange. Everything on MF is up for grabs, while the other requires some hunting for pics with open rights.

@DebtEye – A good picture / article match is critical as it provides a visual anchor to the audience. My experience is that posts with pics get more traffic. Plus, a good image transfers well to Facebook & Stumbleupon where visual appeal really drives clicks.

I don't use many pictures on The Dog Ate My Wallet, but I do use quite a few on Life by Pets. In both cases though, they are almost all pictures I've taken. I only use other pictures in the case of my "Guess the Breed" posts to compare/contrast with the picture I've taken.
On 100 Words On, I have used pictures from the Astronomy Picture of the Day website, though I always make sure I link the picture back to them.
For Fiction in 50, where every post is a picture, I mostly use my own photographs, though I've used some taken by my father or of family members (like WWI or WWII era pictures of grandfathers), so we own the rights to everything I use.

I recently came across this at the bottom of somebody's blog, right next to (or part of) their copyright statement:
We claim no credit for any images featured on this site unless otherwise noted. All visual content is owned by its respectful owners. If you own rights to any of the images, and do not wish them to appear here, please contact us and they will be promptly removed.
I don't know, but I'm assuming this means they just took random pictures from the internet and posted them on their site. I admit, I've done the same, but I always give credit to the site I found the picture on.

Matt, I wonder if their little disclaimer actually protects them from anything? I've got it on my to-do list that I need to go back and clean up all my old posts since traffic is starting to pick up. I always give credit if its from flickr or a blog, but I think I've skipped a few.
