So my launch of my taco seasonings was a flop, but I'm regrouping and going to try again. This time, instead of giving away the product, I've got two different ideas for promotions. I was curious on everyone's thoughts one which deal sounded more attractive and which deal you would be more likely to buy.

Option 1: 20% off. This is 1 $1 savings- $4 instead of $5

Option 2: Free ebook (my cookbook). This is a $3.99 value (Side benefit, there's no cost to me)

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Melissa & Jai, Thanks. That's what I've been leaning towards myself. But I could see how the idea of cheaper price would appeal to some, so I thought I'd ask around.

Brent, I'm actually reading the book right now; I should have it done by the end of the weekend.

Maybe you could offer both options? If one of them is more attractive to someone than the other, then they are more likely to buy from you. It's like the illusion of choice trick. Saying you can either have this deal or that deal. A shopper is more likely to snap up the deal they find attractive, forgetting that they are making a choice of whether to buy or not to buy. Hope this helps – not sure if I've explained it clearly enough to make complete sense! Confused

Just though of another example which might clarify. You can say to a child "after you have tidied your room, would you like to have some chocolate or some ice cream". They're given no choice about whether they want to tidy their room, but are distracted by the more attractive choice of a treat. They will be far more likely to tidy their room than just saying to them "would you like to tidy your room"! Smile

20% off, but I've tasted your taco seasoning and know it's good.

By the way, I never got an email from you that you were launching, hence no review yet.  Let me know when you relaunch and I can get a review up with a link to your site.  Laugh

Jon, That makes perfect sense. I just have to figure out the best way of integrating that into my sales copy.

Crystal, I'm going for June 11.

I'm with Jon…BOTH! Why not include a coupon or coupon code at the end of the eBook?

Thanks everyone for the input.

Hank, that's a great idea to include a coupon code at the end of the ebooks (I have two for sale). I'll get that done this weekend.

Now I have one last question for everyone. This one is regarding price. The biggest problem with my jars is the weight. Seasoning, jar, and packaging weigh in at almost a pound. Shipping costs are as much as what I originally intended to charge. So, basically, 1 jar costs $5 + $5 S&H. I had the idea of rolling those costs together to sell for $10 with free shipping.

What do you think?

I vote free ebook.

Rolling the cost together sounds like a good idea! "Free shipping" is always attractive.

Free eBook. A customer who spends $4 can also spend $5. I do not think that the 20% off will sway a lot of people.
