Hi all,
I have to admit that my efforts with social media (with the exception of twitter) have been nonexistent. So I am wonder what sites do you use frequently and what are the best channels for sharing others posts and such.
I don't have the visibility that most of you have so Facebook seemed pointless to me at this point.
I set up an account for Reddit last night and not really sure what to do with it.
Any help would greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I use all of the sharing sites (Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Stumble, Digg). I found it easy to include the Sharing WP plugin, which puts them all at the bottom of each post. If you make a Facebook account and post it here, you will get all the Yakezie following you very quickly.

Marissa – What is it exactly, that you want to do with social media? Some sites are better for some things than others but I think they all take time and some work to build traction. You might find it better to pick one for a bit. For sharing, Twitter and Facebook are nice. Google+ is growing and that's another place to look.

I regularly use Facebook but I have noticed that there is more interaction on Twitter. I'm also on Digg and Reddit, Tipd Stumbleupon and just started using those recently.

Just be careful with the frequency at which you post on Reddit, especially when it links back to your own site. They put me on hiatus for a long time for doing that…it's hard to resist though, I have definitely found Reddit to be the most powerful of all those sites, I have had many many referral visits from there.

Yes, you can fall into Reddit's spam filter if you post too much from your own site. I like to mix it up to stay safe.

Yeah, Reddit can be good. I never got any hits from Reddit for the posts that I submitted though. The only post that was a hit was submitted by Wealth Artisan. It brought 4000 people for 3 days, even now I get ~5-10 a month from that reddit submission (Thanks Timothy!!). I have stopped submitting to any social media, should start again…

I have used a variety of them before. I like Reddit, Digg and Stumble upon…however, I have found social traffic doesn't convert very well, but I will take it if they come to my site.
I have been meaning to get more involved with Tip'd as I like the community a bit.
The thing about FB, Twitter, and G+ is you have to use them if you expect to rank in the search engines. It seems the social component has really gotten some loving from the search engines these days…seems like this is a trend that might grow and grow.

Thanks everyone!
I am going to start being more involved in Reddit and Digg and do some research at Tip'd. I love twitter, but I have noticed that people (challengers perhaps) are posting each one of their articles about 20 times each day. The entire point of twitter is to interact. Or at least I think it is.

Yes Reddit is great for traffic – just make sure you are submitting more of other people's post versus your own. Also, vote people's posts up to gain more traffic.
If you use WP-Sharing (included in JetPack), it has a Reddit button that can be displayed on every post, which is helpful.

Interesting, my Reddit experience has not been great, Stumbleupon however drives some traffic my way. I like Twitter for promoting others, but nothing tops Facebook for traffic to my site. I think it's all about the thumbnail…people are like fish, they are attracted to bright shiny things…just a theory

Facebook and Twitter works really well. When Reddit works it brings a flood of traffic.

I've only been using Twitter and Facebook. Looks like should expand into a few more, esp. Reddit after reading all of your comments. So many different channels! No wonder people hire virtual assistants!

Agree with Forest, when Reddit works it opens a flood gate to your blog. but only for 10 mins traffic dies soon

Back when I had time, I used to post to a lot of them – about 8 manually and 25 or so through a plugin (Onlywire). Reddit and Tip'd provided the most traffic, but Tip'd started to die out.
