Okay kids.  It's time to wake up the forums.  I'm being extremely nosy, but be honest when you answer,

Why are you blogging?

I'm digging my way out of some serious debt at

I started blogging out of boredom – I was tired of watching TV and playing video games and wanted a more productive hobby.

Now, I enjoy writing and building a small business, and it as evolved from there.

I started blogging because one day I started looking at blog. Before that, I NEVER did (unless you count Perez Hilton). Then I got hooked. Haven't looked back :)

Whew, OK…here we go, I started blogging because I wanted to try to help people who were scared to invest in stocks, but my real goal is to write a book investing in the stock market and it was that goal that has lead me to blogging about investments, I can not dedicate as much time to my blog as I want, but boy— blogging and the blogging friends that I have found has been truly inspirational and now I believe I will reach my goal to write that book. Hope this reply wasn't too long….

Some days, I ask myself the same question!

I started on a cold winter's day back in December 2009 with Entry Level Dilemma because I attended a talk by a Gen Y entrepreneur who said that anyone looking for a job should have a blog building their personal brand and showing their expertise. So I wrote about my job search journey. I eventually dropped the topic and rebranded the site to Edward Antrobus because I felt like a fraud writing about job searching advice when I hadn't gotten a full-time job after two years. But frugality and complaining about money? I totally have cred with that!

If You Can Read, You Can Cook was started because of a conversation with Adam Baker. I was working on my cookbook and asked on advice on marketing it as a self-published author. His top recommendation was a blog. So I became a food blogger. To date, that blog has made me more money than the sales of the cookbook.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Good question.  For me, the answer can change daily or hourly depending on my mood.  Some of my reasons are: to have fun, to be helpful to others, to share some of the tips I use to live within my means, to compile info for a book of some sort, to make extra "mad money", to connect with other similar-minded people from across the world, to have fun (worth mentioning twice!), and to put my stamp on the world.  Also, I have found blogging about frugality is the best way I have found for me to actually follow my own advice, so that is a very good financial motivation for me to continue to blog!

I started blogging to answer some of the questions that my friends and family has about Finance. Being in the technology field, made it easier for me to jump in.

Learning, interaction, friends, fun, and keeping in touch with my family who is all over.

Blogging has truly changed my life for the better.  The biggest reward is the friendships I've made, and how much closer I am to my parents who have followed along, left their opinions in comments, and have collaborated on several topics, including my book.  That's priceless!

Can't believe blogging has also helped me lose weight.  I've been trying to get under 160lbs and match my high school track/tennis weight for over 15 years.  I thought it was an impossible barrier, but thanks to writing The Ideal Body Weight Pisses Me Off, I broke the barrier in 3 months and has helped me tremendously in USTA tennis league competition this year.  It's crazy how much blogging has helped in so many aspects of life.

Family, friends, health, happiness.  What's more important?

Regards,

Sam

It started as a pulpit to voice my opinions on personal finance…and while it still is about that…its also about building up a small business too.  Some say money takes away from blogging, but it's more a goal and a drive than about the money.  I wanna see if I can do it!

I started because I needed a hobby and wanted to make some like-minded friends.  Plus my husband was really tired of hearing about our budget from me…

I blog to force myself on a consistent writing schedule and it's interactive and community-driven, which is truly the best part.

I started blogging because I found myself talking people's faces off (literally, their face was a puddle on the floor at the end of it) about budgeting, paying off debt, getting great deals, etc. I also had done a handful of financial counseling sessions, and seeing the light turn on for people who had never looked at their spending on paper was a joy. I wanted iHB to turn into my virtual portal to help people get on a budget and save some serious cash by spending money on their priorities, and not on stupid stuff.

I came out of the gate by writing a budgeting basics series. Once that was off my chest, it's been fun to chat with people and read other blogs for inspiration. Honestly, I have always wanted to be a financial coach for a living, but didn't see enough money in it. But now I can help people online and build a brand and business that is funded through advertising. It's the best of both worlds.

Plus, I like a challenge, and the Yakezie Challenge has kept me going. Somedays, I blog because I committed to 2-4 posts a week, and Sam would be disappointed if I didn't ;)

For me,

1. I like thinking and learning about personal finance.

2. I like writing.

3. I need to keep learning to be happy (and the whole blogging thing is new to me).

4. Make a little money someday I hope!

5. Clearly there's a desperate need for what I write about. Not that the needy will visit and read!

I was 20 years old, upset that I didn't have any work that day, and was waiting to go out that night. I decided to mess around with launching my own blog. Let's just say that I didn't make it out that night, lost a girlfriend in the process, and have loved blogging ever since. It has led me to meet amazing people, appear on tv/print, and make $.

As I have mentioned, I initially decided to start blogging in the middle of a desert in Utah, backpacking with a few friends. Miles from having any decent cell service (and certainly no internet connection), I was telling my friends from college how they need to check their credit report annually. It was then that I realized I had something that mattered to say and if I can provide a great resource for others my age, then I will do it. That's why I started and now that I have tasted a hint of success, I want to see how far I can take it. Blogging is addicting.

The reason I started blogging was just to find people who were in a similar position. And most importantly to learn as much I could about finance so that I could hopefully impress in my new job! Smile

I would love to one day make money from blogging, turning it into a full time job. Taking what i've learned all all the experienced heads on here and sharing my journey! That's the true goal.

To share specific skills and tools people can use to stop fighting about money.

To learn more about the emotions, reasons and circumstances that cause people to fight about money and finances.

To have an excuse to interview the intelligent, passionate personal finance and dispute resolution professionals who inspire me.

To inspire others to evaluate how they interact with their family, friends and colleagues in stressful and difficult situations.

To have an additional income stream.

I'm able to lend financial advice to a handful of people each day at work. These are the ones that are proactive and contact me with questions. Blogging allows me to affect a much greater amount of people that need a financial education.

I didn't think that the community aspect would be such a positive factor when I started, but it has been a very pleasant surprise.
