It looks like Wise Bread will be adding advertising data to their Top PF Blogs Chart.
Info will include what types of ad spots and advertising opportunities you have available and how much you charge for them.
Advertisers can then use this info to easily find your rates and buy ads from you directly.
This was mentioned in a survey that they sent out for the finance blog conference that is coming up.
This should be a pretty interesting feature.
If enough pf bloggers are willing to submit this info, it could also begin a sort of standardization of pf blog advertising prices, as other bloggers start to see and compare their pricing against one another, sort of what we're trying to achieve with Yakezie as well I think.
This would be an interesting feature for the Yakezie member list as well, not that I'm suggesting people's time and resources should be invested in implementing such a feature, but just in theory, since so many advertisers are perusing the Yakezie member list (the official one that is).

This is definitely interesting, and something Yakezie would need to look at strategically. I don't think I'm very fond of advertisers having that much clarity involving our fees.

I'm not sure I like it or not. I guess it depends on what other bloggers expect for their add spots. If they are all higher than what I'm used to, then I guess it'll be fine. If not, then that's going to be unfortunate…

I don't like publicly displaying that information either. I think it gives away too much information and reduces the leverage of negotiating with an advertiser.

I'm not a fan of sharing that info publicly just yet either. I'm not going to submit a response just yet.

I'm not sure that standardization would be a good thing for everyone, for the simple fact that not every blog has the same level of exposure and traffic. I'm all for sharing link juice and publicity, but I don't think that my blog deserves to charge the same prices as most others since there is a huge difference in readership, age, popularity, etc. Even if it meant that I could make more money, I wouldn't feel right about it (if that makes sense)

I definitely would be against sharing my prices publicly.

I don't like this either. It takes away any leverage you have. Plus, rates can change as blogs grow and it would be an updating nightmare.

I guess I should have read that email more carefully. If I'd realized that they would be entering the advertising data into the PF Blogs Chart I wouldn't have answered the advertising rates questions.

One thing is for sure–it would be insanely interesting to see the data from bloggers who do post their rates.

I went into the survey and started filling it out but wasn't comfortable with it and ended up abandoning it.
The e-mail said that it wouldn't be directly tied back to your site but that it would lead to the ability to have advertisers contact you. Not sure how that would work, but I'm nervous about ever posting anything with advertising rates because Google could use that to put the hammer down on you.

I don't really understand what you would get by giving away all this information. I see why the advertisers and wisebread would want to know it, but not why the aveage blogger would give that information away.
If I was ever to give this data away I would be sure to double to price that I actually accept to give you a chance when negotiating with advertisers.

There's a bit of information assymmetry out there. Presumably, the advertisers advertise in multiple places, and probably have a much better idea of the "going rate" than a blogger like me who has never sold a direct ad. So while posting this list probably gives the advertisers a bit better idea of the norm, they probably already have a much better idea of the norm than we, the bloggers, do. And I doubt that they hesistate to send out a lowball offer if they find a good blog that doesn't seem to have too many ads on it yet.
I have been paid to post a couple of sponsored videos on my blog, and the advertiser seemed more than happy to pay a much higher price than I would have asked for on my own – and I probably could have negotiated it up, but I just have no idea what's reasonable.
What may be more beneficial to Yakezie is a closed summary of information on how much seems to be reasonable to charge for ads. I.E. this list would only be open to Yakezie members.

I got that too, didn't get a chance to actually open the survey. I don't think I will be sharing my rates. But I will surely poke around when the survey is complete

I am really curious to see if they got any of the info they were looking for?

I got another email from Lynn tonight trying to explain that we could fill out as little or as much of the survey as possible. I wanted to write back saying, "I'm not sure I trust you now," but restrained myself to saying, "thanks for letting me know."

I had already completed the survey without realizing how the advertising data would be shared. I also received the follow-up email from Lynn and she has said she will remove my data. I'll be sure to read my emails more carefully from now on.

Well, interesting enough. I didn't get the email, probably because I can't even get wisebread's attention to put my blog up anywhere in their list….
