Out of curiousity, if you were presented with a personal finance book to review, would you charge the author a fee/sponsored post for writing a review and providing them a link in post? Keep in mind that the author is a non-Yakezie member/challenger.

I actually agreed to do this recently, but with stipulations. If the book is popular and I know the author is making tons of money from it, I know s/he can pay me something for the review. If, however, the book is something written by one of the "little guys" and I know the author will do well to break even, I don't mind to review for free. Especially if the book is actually worth reading. As always, I warn them that I will post a review, but not necessarily a POSITIVE review.

I like to receive the free book and hopefully learn something – this is payment enough for me. Plus, if there are some nuggets in there, I can share them with my readers.

I would ask that they send the book to me first and when or whether I review it is up to my discretion. If I really think the book is valuable, i'll promote it for free, but if otherwise, I won't

I don't charge for book reviews, but I only accept books I want to read.

I no longer do reviews because I get too many pitches but when I did I wouldn't charge but use the books for a giveaway. I would usually request at least 2 copies for the giveaway.

I haven't charged, though my ability to actually review a book depends on available time. I would ask for a few copies for a giveaway, which would be a win-win for you and the publisher.

One other consideration here is that the common "rule of thumb" for authors and book pr folks is to not pay for book reviews. It's frowned upon in the book community.

I agree with Sandy. There are too many book review requests. I would not charge for one though.

I have never heard of charging for a book review. I wouldn't anyway–I think the book is payment, and I choose whether or not I want to do a review on it based on if/when I read it.

I always ask for an additional copy for a giveaway – I feel two copies of the book is enough payment for an educational post.
