I think I've done it. I started writing for google and lost my passion for writing. I have great posts that are getting indexed but when I compare my old posts to the new ones I'm writing there is such a difference.
I really noticed this today when I started writing a guest post for Derek. I couldn't write fast enough. And it's because I wasn't worrying about keywords or anything like that. I just wanted to write how I think, and make it funny enough so people will be able to hear how I'm writing.
Has anyone else burnt out for this reason? Do you write for Google?
Any suggestions?

I consider SEO as a tweak. I don't let that dictate how I write.
Write out as you normally would, make tweaks before publishing. Don't write solely for Google.

I'm with MoneyCone. I don't write for SEO. However, I have tweeked titles of articles and such to maximize it later. I have been lucky enough to get some SEO Love on a lot of my articles even though they were never written for that purpose.
For example, my post on Worst IRA Mistakes that I wrote on Monday was due to a personal story from someone who is struggling with this now after the loss of a loved one. However, it also happened that my post ranks #1 on Google for "Worst IRA Mistakes" and I have been getting over 100 hits a day to that article alone. Never intended, just luck!

Nope, I won't write for Google. Great content is defined by humans, and Google increasingly relies on humans to tell it what is great content.
It's all pretty simple: if you write great content, then other people will do the SEO for you in linking to it, sharing it, and stopping back regularly to get their next fix. If you write for Google, then you have a hard time getting people to link to it, share it, or stop back.
No human reads like Google does. So if your goal is to get more human traffic, realize that Google is the source, but not the end reader.

ditto that. Most of my traffic (>90%) is from google. But I have not written for Google. Write it for readers and then make some changes for google that won't reduce the reader enjoyment.

I will usually write out a post and then use Scribe SEO to help me make small changes.

I understand what you are saying. Sometimes I actually search for a topic that will rank well with Google before I write it! It really is a shame and I'm going to follow your lead from now on and not worry so much what Google thinks! :)
By the way, can't wait for the guest post! :)

I have a related question, not exactly on topic. If you use all in one SEO, how many meta tags you insert on average per post? and is it mostly comma separated words, or comma separated sentences or a mix?

It is comma separated - words, phrases… doesn't matter… whatever fits the subject.
Make sure you fill in the title, description and keywords. Tags are not taken into consideration for SEO purposes.

With the exception of adding in alt descriptions for images, h2 subheaders tags, etc, I never write for Google.

"Google is the source, but not the end reader." That's what I need to remember. I'm too busy researching keywords to even write anything enjoyable. I'm going back to how I wrote when I first started. I used to write with my sister in mind. She likes funny posts that are also easy to understand (in terms of finance). Glad to hear everyone's take on it.

Great advice. But I guess one good thing is that now I have some nice pillar articles that I can reference.

I don't write for Google. I haven't taken the time to even get anything set up to do meta tags in blogger at this point. Joomla has that built in so I have added tags there, but need to find time to optimize them for the keywords I'm wanting to rank on.

Nope, I write what I want and then add subtitles and SEO stuff when I'm done. Even then, if I like the way it is when I'm done and don't like the look of the SEO stuff, I blow it off…this is why I do not make as much as most full time bloggers with Adsense…

There's a balance. SEO is critical, but at the end of the day, your readers come first. Plus, after getting the boot from Adsense, I don't care as much about SEO!

Been up and down many times. Frugal Zeitgeist has suffered and I am really trying to get it back on track.
I am working with another writer now too and am hoping to get more personal and self ranting again in my posts rather than trash because I feel I have to write.

I honestly have never written for Google since I started. Sure my blog has been a bit slower to grow but that's ok, it's been all me the whole time. I think that is the one thing I like most about my blog- it expresses my real opinions and discusses the things that are actually important to me and not to Google.I also think my readers respect that; at least I hope…lol

I am the exact opposite, which is probably why it takes me several months to get a $100 payout from Adsense. I only write what I want to!
Don't let Google crush your passion:).

Write for people. It's what the big G wants. They want readability and great content.
But consider basic SEO before you hit publish. A few tweaks, like tags, won't make your content robotic.
