What is the best way to build an archive? I have one on my main site (http://knsfinancial.com/archives/), but I would be interested to see if there are better options. Also, does the archive need to have something built in (XML or something) that gets submitted to Google?
Thanks!

I just made my archive. You can see it here: http://thecollegeinvestor.com/archives/
If you like it, I can send you over the code. Email me.
Basically, you create a template using php, and then create a new page using that template.

I like the look of your archives. Having them organized by various ways makes them easy for readers. I am using a plugin now, so having that code can allow me to uninstall it (I currently have 64 active plugins).
I'm emailing you now.
