So my biggest takeaways from every conference that I attended this year was to start building a newsletter or start gathering email addresses. That's all fine and dandy, but I wanted to ask your favorite newsletters are?
What resonates well with you? Images? Blurbs from posts? Brand new content? Series etc?

I like original content. Pointing towards older posts is fine as long as there is something written up about it and it is adding value. I think writing an email about a series would be a nice way to group related posts that may have been published weeks apart from each other.
It seems like a lot of people use an email newsletter for RSS functions, but that defeats the purpose for me personally.

I will read or at least Ramit's and, Pat Flynn's newslettera when they come. The only other one that I even ever open is Martin's. Every other newsletter I'm subscribed to is the result of a giveaway and I'm just too lazy to unsubscribe or they are a friend and I want to help boost their numbers.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I like Pat Flynn's newsletter. Lots of content and no sales. Ramit's is packed with content but it's hard sell all the way through.
I will consistently open Derek Halpern's and Glen's from Viper Chill if he sends one. Derek's is also hard sell tho.
I Crystal's as well. I like the fact that it's all current content but I don't know that I could create a newsletter like that. Mine is mostly auto responders.
I suggest you subscribe to a few to see what you like then model your own using ideas you've gathered.

Some of my faves:
Wise Bread
ChristianPF
DIY Themes
Len Penzo
Pat Flynn
I like them for different reasons. Some are just packed with helpful posts, make me laugh, or are relevant to my daily and/or blogging life.

If i'm being honest … the newsletters I tend to retain most often (save to a folder for future reference) are 2 Yakezie members
1) Sunil – Extra Money Blog.
2) Geoff @ DDIY.co
3) Mike @ The Financial Blogger has some really good newsletters.

I do subscribe to multiple newsletters, but I'm a super nerd so my interests are a bit different.
I frequently read Derek's, Pat's and Mike's since I find that they contain a lot of really useful information, on the other hand, I have a few that are graphically appealing.

I subscribe to very few newsletters. Most of them don't contain anything original or interesting, and I get easily frustrated when they show up at an inconvenient time (which is totally not the newsletter's fault, but I'm just being honest). I have just started an email list, but it's for a very specific purpose and probably won't be used other than that. I probably get an F in newsletter use.

Almost all of Pay Flynn's are autoresponders as well. I think a good goal is to make an awesome email, and set it up like an autoresponder. Make it content that isn't going to get old (which is easy in personal finance), and set it up to send out automatically.
I think that you should treat your newsletter like a post in itself. I think of it as a post via email. I think it helps drive readers back that may not have visited in a while…like "oh yea, The College Investor…I should stop by more often"

Thanks LaTisha!!! Yeah, I use my weekly newsletter as a diary entry now. And for the monthly income updates of course…I saw a big uptick when I brought those back, hahaha.

Another vote for Pat Flynn's. His is worth subscribing to just to see what he does, and why.
