I'm looking for some specific tips on how to get people to comment on blog posts. What have you done in the past that worked well?

Here are some sure-fire ways:
1) Write about something controversial. People may not agree and it will definitely prompt them to post their opinion
2) Begin your article with a question. It will capture more readers and hopefully keep them around long enough to comment.
3) Finish your article with questions for your readers.
4) Comment on other bloggers sites. A lot of times, they'll return the favor.
5) Hang out and comment in the Yakezie network! This will attract readers and not only improve your Alexa rank, but also the number of comments on your site.
Hope this helps!

What Derek said! Don't be shy in your writing. People like to comment on posts that demand a comment. Write boring, non-controversial blog posts and people will ignore your material. It's really that simple :)

Finish your post with a question asking your readers what they think or if they have any additional suggestions.

I'm another one that finishes all of my posts with real questions for my readers. :-)

I also have it built in to my post auto formatting to ask a question at the end of each post. Also, if you comment on other sites, the blog author will often return the favor.

What do you mean by post auto formatting?

I do not know your blog very well but I did look at it within the last two weeks with intention of commenting. Your blog is about wealth. I am not wealthy. I couldn't comment on posts such as "What to do with your new found fortune?"
Also on your post "How to get sudden money" I do not see a place for comments.

I did not realize that your site and your blog were not the same thing.

Derek hit the nail on the head. Finish your post up with comments and you will get a lot of replies.

I can say that the Yakezie members/challengers are excellent about commenting and returning the favor, so keep commenting on their articles. Now if you are looking for people outside the network to comment, that will simply take some time…. Ive been blogging for about 3 months now, and I think I received my first non-yakezie member comment only a couple weeks ago…finally starting to see some social media/google traffic.

I think it's important to be active on other bloggers' sites, and take an interest in what your peers are writing. When you do this, the other bloggers tend to take an interest in your blog posts as well. That's a great way to get the ball rolling on comments.

Sorry about that – probably wasn't clear on what that was.
In Blogger, you can specify a post "template" to use that will automatically display the text you have typed on the template whenever you click the "new post" button.
On the post template, I have written out the following – "How about you all? ___________ ? Share your experiences by commenting below!"
This gives me a reminder with each post I write to ask the readers questions.

This is an amazing answer. To follow up and expand:
When you write about something controversial, take a strong stand. Don't start a flame war with other bloggers, but do hold to your opinion. Expect dissent. You need a thick skin for this route.
Ending your post with a direct call for comments helps.
Have an opinion, solve a problem, but don't solve it too well. If you answer everything, you leave no room for discussion and conversation.
