Can you tell me what the difference between the visits and the pageviews are? Which ones do you guys usually show to your blog readers at you monthly stats post?

Visits are total number of visits, new, old, everyone.

Uniques are new visitors, or visitors who have cleared cookies before visiting again.

Pageviews are how many times a page has been viewed. Could be one visit has generated 5 pageviews or 20 pageviews.

There are some really good help guides the Google puts out for more info on how to use GA it really is a massive tool.

visits = the total visits to your blog

uniques = the total UNIQUE vistors to you blog (this is the metric most use)

page views = the number of pages viewed by the visits to your blog

Don't worry about asking questions! I have them all the time, and I've been doing this a year now! You'll never learn everything, but if you don't ask, you'll never learn anything. ;)

The question is not a stupid one Tony.  But, you can put a little effort into discovering the answer to a question prior to posing it.  When you're stumped and can't figure it out then ask away but take the initiative and do a search here on Yakezie, or Google – the answers are quite often at your finger tips and on the plus side, it takes less time to type a search query than it does an entire forum post! :)

I guess you're right. But my search skills are really bad. I just can't seem to find the right keywords to search. I guess I should practice that.

Even just typing google analytics into the Yakezie search will help.  You may need to scroll thru a few pages of results but i've found a lot of long buried advice on this forum!  One tip is use the option for "exact term" – otherwise you'll get EVERY results that has Google in it!  And there is a ton of mention of the big G around these parts.

I like seeing the so-called stupid questions, because they bring up topics I'm interested in even though I may not have been actively seeking out the answers. Plus I get to see comments from new people :)

Hi Everyone,

I have a Google Analytics question as well. I assume this is what people use to find where their traffic is coming from.  I have some issue or haven't configured something properly as my Analytics for americandebtproject.com says I had 2 unique visits in the last 30 days, even though my adsense says I had 220 pageviews yesterday.  Could it be because in the configuration for analytics I didn't put a www in front of the name?

I know having Google Analytics up will help me a lot, so any advice you guys have will be HUGE!  Thanks a lot!!

One thing you figured out, the other possibility is of placing the code script in wrong place. I would recommend pasting the script inside header tag and discourage using plugin for inserting GA script. can't think of any other possibility

Thanks! I got rid of the plugin and inserted the code in the footer, so I guess I will have to wait till tomorrow to see if it's working.  But I think I fixed it :)

Dang, it still says only two page views so something is not picking up :(. I could just delete my whole analytics profile and start over.  I'll try that.

Just check if the id matches between script and the profile you're viewing. That id is in your script code as well.

Just checked it again and it is working! Wow this has a lot more information than my AdSense, I think I will be spending a lot of time on it!  Cool!  Thanks for the help all!
