This might be a unique problem, but thought I will put it out there incase in the future someone else have the same problem. I have been trying to ping someone's blog with comments (sorry!). Long story short, I have never been able to comment in certain blogs. Turns out firefox+alexa+firebug is a bad combination esp. with captcha. I always used the browser with Alexa to visit yakezie site, because, well, we need alexa. Firefox without Alexa or firebug went through. I am guessing firefox with just alexa without firebug will work too, as so many other people are doing it.
So the whole point of the rant is – if you are using firebug and getting random errors, you might want to check that.

Yay, I see your comments! I'm so glad you figured it out, because I was completely stumped. Feel free to use me as a test site whenever (hitting a delete comment button is way better than missing out on people who want to participate). Yay!

I just installed firebug about a week ago, but I haven't had any problems leaving comments. Do you notice it with certain commenting plugins – Intense Debate, Disqus, Comment Luv, etc?

As you can see from Crystal's comment, I was trying to comment on BFS on/off for quite a while now. There are a few other blogs I can't comment (like Watson Inc, I think I should try commenting there too now). From BFS it looks like there is nothing special, firebug says there is captcha but I don't "see" captcha in BFS. And she has commentluv too. But Everydaytips has commentluv too, and I have no problem commenting there. I just have to check a bit more. I have firecookie, pagespeed, greasemonkey, too… I just installed alexa for ie, ie doesn't have any of these, so I will just use ie for blogs and ff for everything else.
As I said it might be a unique problem. I have too many other stuff for work, but if someone else have the same problem, it might be worth a try to uninstall frebug and try…

I use Conditional Captcha, so you would only see it if Akismet tries to eat you. :-)

Was firebug open at the time? I've never encountered an issue with that combo but I guess if firebug is running then maybe something can go wonky.

Yes I generally keep firebug+firecookie on all the time. Greasemonkey is enabled all the time too.
