Disappearing Script / Script Not Working Issue

Howdy Folks,

Anybody ever copy and paste a script in the HTML tab of a post or page, preview, or save, only to have nothing come up and the script disappear?

Wordpress seems very temperamental on scripts, and I've got to basically copy a script in HTML, not do anything else but save or publish for the script to work.  As soon as I navigate to Visual tab and write some content, the script disappears.

Thoughts and solutions?

Thx,

Sam

Regards,

I've had this happen before as well (with some affiliate stuff), but I haven't found out why. There seems to be no rhyme or reason and I have just had to play around with it to get it to stay. I'd love to hear other people's solutions.

I've run into this problem myself. Once I add a script, I have to stay in HTML mode, so I try to add any scripts at the very end. I think it's because the visual editor is trying to interpret the script as text and will add formatting characters.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Sam,

I use the iframe script when I put together my investment posts and the only way I can get it to work is to add them in the html tab right before I publish

Got it.  So add the script right at the end.  That's easy enough to do.  Good to hear it is a common problem.

Wonder why WP just doesn't go and fix it.

This is what I do as well. And, like you said, Sam, just insert it at the end after you've done everything else.

Yup, WP doesn't like all HTML in the visual tab.  Like you said, add it when you are ready to go and save in the HTML tab.

I have to do the same thing for my videos – add the script right when I am ready to publish. Unfortunately, you must use the HTML editor (or copy the script to add at the end again) if you ever go back and edit the post, or the script will disappear. It's really a pain.

I have the same problem and also wonder why WP doesn't fix that one. Maybe not enough complaints yet?

Maybe Wordpress doesn't consider it a problem.  I've never thought of it as a bug, but just figured once you were in html you needed to stay in html.  I am able to go html>visual but going back to html again messes up the script.

I put scripts in around 20% of my articles and this happens to me all the time, heh.  Assuming you have it saved:

  1. Exit the article where the script disappeared (don't save!)
  2. Edit an article which doesn't have a script in it
  3. Set that article to html mode
  4. Go back to the article screen
  5. Edit the article with the script in it – you should be in html mode and your script will be back

Some other tricks I've done are embedding my big scripts in the header with php, and using iFrames (ESPECIALLY when using stuff like jquery, since Wordpress overwrites the '$').
