Hey all,

I just completed my first giveaway.  I've been trying to track the winner down for days.  Email and Twitter.  No response.  I have people who entered and are asking who won.  I'm kind of stuck.  Any suggestions?  Should I redraw after a week's time?  So weird.  Confused

I usually have it on the rules. I will only hold the prize for 3 days. If I have made a good faith effort to contact the winner and he/she doesn't get back to me within that time frame, I move on. 1 week is more than enough, pick another winner.

I agree with Suba.  The same thing actually happened to me once – the winner never responded to my emails.  Finally I sent her an email and said that if I didn't hear back from her within 48 hours she was forfeiting her prize.  Well, I never heard back so I went ahead and chose another winner and sent the prize to that person.

Well wouldn't you know 6 months later the original winner contacted me and wanted to know if she could still claim her prize.  I pointed out the email I'd sent which stated she had forfeited her prize by not contacting me by the deadline.  She understood but of course was disappointed.  She said she had made an email just for the contest I was running and had forgotten to check it until now…

Sorry Buck! It was me–we had an unexpected death in the family on Mother's Day, and had to drive 8 hrs to Arkansas and back over the last few days. Thanks for hanging in there Buck! I promise I am usually much more responsive:).

I didn't know you had roots in Arkansas Amanda! That's where I grew up and my family still is (in Fayetteville, AR).

I married into roots in Arkansas:). The particular town is in the middle of nowhere, and we spend each Thanksgiving there (except the last one, when we went on our honeymoon). It's truly lovely to get out of the city for several days where there is nothing to do but relax, read, and catch up!

Glad it all worked out.

Below is my verbiage for my giveaway. My standard "winner" email says "Congratulations! You are a winner on Super Frugalette". This way, it is very clear what the email is about. I read in the forums on online-sweepstakes.com what people liked about giveaways and implemented their preferences. It has been working well so far.

This giveaway will end on 5/15 at 11:59 pm CST.  Open to US
residents 18+.  Winners chosen by “The Winner Is” WordPress plugin and
are posted. All winners will be notified via email and have 2 days to
respond or another winner will be chosen.
