I noticed that my traffic dropped by about 50% yesterday (compared to the last 7 days), then today I noticed that I have no traffic at all (about 40 pageviews or so)!!! So, I decided to check a couple of keywords for which I am on the first page in Google. I'm not there any longer!!!
I don't know what happened, or where to look for answers. I just checked Webmaster to see if any major errors came up, but there was nothing.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Search has been about 80% of my traffic during the last week!!!

You could just be bouncing. Take a deep breath. If you don't see any rebound, then you can start to worry.
When you search for your terms, you aren't ranking say…30th or 50th? Or 31st or 51st for those terms? Google, if it decides to slap you with a penalty, will often push your SE positions 30 or 50 positions from where they were.
Have you
- Added any new links lately?
- Done anything SEO-sketchy

Welcome to the Google Dance.
You are still in the google index. http://www.google.com/search?s…..f&oq=
Sometimes sites bounce way down the index for a day or a week, then come back up, usually higher than before. It's panic-inducing the first few times it happens, but as long as you are showing up in the index, it will get better.

I just checked again and I wasn't in the first 11 pages of the search. So then I searched again and added "KNS Financial" to the search, and my articles (I held the # 1, 2, and 3 spots a few days ago) still didn't come up. However, I was able to see the links from Tip'd, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.
Currently on the site I have no text link ads, and 1 mortgage calculator (with 4 or 5 links embedded), and that is all. I have been focusing on SEO a lot lately, but I don't think I did anything that would seem "sketchy".
I actually use Scribe SEO when I write my articles, and part of the program actually tells you when you use the keyword too much – so I haven't even been keyword stuffing or anything.

Have you seen this happen for multiple keywords? It's not that my articles are just low for those terms, but they are completely gone! I actually searched a few terms and added knsfinancial.com (so it would ignore most social media links), and those articles still didn't show up!
I actually have an article that had a Pagerank before my site even had one, and that article doesn't show up for it's keyword either!
Is this normal?

Khaleef, I can't ask you to calm down because if that happened to me, I can't calm down. But, it did happen to me just yesterday. My traffic dropped significantly and I was out of the index for at least one keyword (which gave the the most traffic). Today it is back in the first position ( I was 4th when they dropped me). For another keyword, I am in the 20th position when they got me back, dropped from 5th. I am still missing for a couple of my other keywords. I don't think we can do anything. Other than to wait…

In December, I had it happen to an entire site that I was tracking 6 keywords for. It took two weeks, but it came back with a higher rank than it started.

Yeah, I'm not frantic, but it is pretty annoying to have something like this happen. I'm glad to hear that other people have gone through it and things worked out.
I guess I am really worried because Google kicked me out of AdSense a few months ago, and never told me why. So I automatically thought that whatever problems they had with my site before, came up again.
I'll update this thread if anything changes.
Thanks to everyone for their input!

Wow, that's insane! Any idea as to what caused it?
Well anyway, I'm glad to hear that everything came back.

I've been seeing an uptick in traffic network-wide on my sites, maybe we're seeing an algo switch? I don't know.
Even MoneyMamba is performing well, I'm getting roughly 5-6 Google visits per day which is okay for a new launch, I'd say.
As long as Google hasn't given you a -30 or a -50 penalty, I'd say you're probably A-OK. Give it a couple days…

Did you do anything to your permalinks or do some 301 re-directs? That could affect things.

No, nothing like that. It just happened out of nowhere. I made no changes and noticed that I went from well over 1,000 pageviews to a little over 600, and then to 100. I'll give it a few days and check back on Monday.

If you haven't done anything to your site, then sit this one through. It will keep fluctuating. Happens to me all the time! But it comes back, sometimes it doesn't but I'm ranked higher for recent posts.
If your posts disappear from google indexes altogether, then that is a cause for concern.

Did you do anything with your sitemap or anything???
When I did site:knsfinancial, I only get 485 results, which was surprising- I thought there would be more. (I get 1700 for mine)
Have you tried rebuilding and resubmitting your sitemap? Did you do a plugin update or anything at all to anything??

No, I haven't made any changes. I've been using WP Archive/Sitemap Generator for a long time. What do you use?

I use Google XML Sitemap Generator. I have no idea if it is better or worse than any other sitemap generator. I am just perplexed by your sudden drop. Have you emailed google support?

I've actually read good stuff about that plugin, but I just figured they were all the same, and the one I use creates an archive page as well. However, I didn't see any option to rebuild the sitemap. Maybe I should switch just in case.
I didn't email them because my site was still indexed. I did notice that 2 of the articles returned to the front page, so maybe the problem is correcting itself. I'll check it again on Monday.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Kris, I think you have a lot of other things indexed like author, tags, archives… I think Khaleef's numbers are more like it if you just index your postsand pages… may be categories too. A lot of people just index the posts to avoid duplicates. I am not saying you shouldn't index everything, it is a personal choice, but having less results is not an indication of bad sitemap. As long as you have all your posts in the sitemap it is good. Just my 2c.
