Any tips on how to speed up a site when you can't write code/are not very good with the technical aspects of a blog?  According to webmaster my site has been running at a super slow speed lately and I have noticed my bounce rate go from virtually nothing to almost 50% the last few days out of nowhere.  Either the content stinks or my site is too slow…….I prefer to think the site is too slowWink…..any advice?

I was worried about this too a couple of weeks ago and installed WP Super Cache.  Does my site seem faster?

Daniel at Sweating the Big Stuff has a thread about this somewhere as well (that's where I got the idea)…

Not slow here at all.  WP Supercache definitely helps, especially if you get a very temporary insane traffic boost (a link from a really popular site, for example.)

Did your search engine traffic go up?  SE traffic is usually on the higher-end of the bounce rate numbers for my sites.

I just tested your site using http://www.webpagetest.org and it is actually incredibly fast for a first load time. The repeat load time is also good. Faster than mine and I spent some time optimizing it too. I think you're fine.

I have supercache and got rid of some bad plugins.  It helped a ton.

WP SuperCache with "Preloading" turned on and enabled for all posts. The preloading makes a huge difference!

Interesting – your Yslow is super fast for me, like a 97, but your Page Speed is an 80.

You should look into installing the Page Speed browser plugin (or something similar), and it will tell you where any bottlenecks are.

Seems like your site is actually loading pretty quickly, but the guilty party for slow sites is typically plugins or widgets that rely on external javascript, since you're at the mercy of someone else's server.

Thanks to everyone for responding…….I think I have things somewhat figured out:

1) @Budgeting in the Fun Stuff – I have always thought your site loads really fast considering you have kind of a lot going on at your site.

2) @JT (The money Mamba) – I think you are right on because just lately I have started getting a lot more search traffic.  Maybe the real problem is I'm not optimizing my keywords or something over my paygrade…..I try not to worry too much about SEO so that might be part of the problem.  But yeah, your right the search is bouncing big time on my site……maybe that's the real problem to solve.

3) @savingmentor – Thanks for testing my site and letting me know it looks alright.  I really appreciate you taking the time to do that.  I have to bone up on some of this technical stuff so I'm not bothering everyone every time things go screwy.

4) @NarrowBridge & @Invest It Wisely – I noticed that as soon as I got rid of a bunch of stuff off my site it seemed to get faster.  That said, I feel bad that I can't have more than bare bones on my site without it becoming an issue….that doesn't bode well for the future should things ever take off for my site.  Then again, that would be a nice problem to have.  (not quitting my day job anytime soon).

5) @Craig and @nerdwallet – Thanks for helping me with some of the more technical aspects of what is going on.

I appreciate everyones help and feel better knowing that my site probably isn't egreciously slow.
