Michael, it dropped while awake from a one foot high futon. It lasted 5.5 years. I replaced it for about $120. Not that expensive. Hope it lasts for another 3 years. Itching to buy a new MBPro or maybe tablet to take on my travels.

As Michael is referring to, my advice for those who use laptops with traditional hard drives, i.e. not solid state drives, is always put your laptop to sleep before carrying it around.

 

You don't want to jostle things around while the discs are spinning as that can cause irreparable damage. I did this once and although my hard drive didn't die right away, it started to malfunction and make noises. I ended up having to replace it and fortunately had 98% of my stuff backed up.
