How old does a forum post have to be to be too old to comment on?

I've been commenting on the forums now and I've noticed several posts that are a few months old, but I really like the topic or comments people made. I want to add a comment, but don't want to rehash something that a person is well and done with. How old is too old? Three months, six months, as long as you have something relevant to say?

Rehash…  The truth of the matter is that there are a lot of new people coming in that sometimes we all need a bit of refreshment.

I think it is better to comment on an old topic that is exactly about what you want to discuss then to start a new one.

The last post on the topic could be a year old… when it is relevant it is relevant.  And there is no need to repeat what was written before.

If you start a new forum, you're going to lose all the perspective that was there originally and probably end up repeating things along the way.  Reviving an old forum brings all that history with it, so I would go that route.

I agree with Money Beagle. Plus since I'm new to Yakezie I'm constantly reading old forum topics. As new people like me join, things that were old are now new.

Thanks guys. I was reading a post from several months ago on money & relationships, and I hesitated to comment on it because it was an older post, but topics like that are never out of date. Plus, I think it would be interesting for people to go back and comment on their original post if their perspective has changed.

I don't think there is a limit, I have myself commented on old topics and old posts.  I agree that it is better to comment on that than to start a new topic.

If the post is only a few months, it is perfectly fine to add your 2 cents there.  You might want to be a bit more careful when the post is a year or 2 old.  Sometimes the forum will already have newer similar discussions going.  If it's still relevant, you really should be able to contribute whenever.

You search!  AWESOME!

Use the old thread, please!  You have no idea how some folks @ Yakezie love when people put in some effort to find a thread and then re-use it (I'm obviously one of these members).

TBH, I have been known to reply to new threads on old topics that the person should search as I know i've read about it in the past.  A pet peeve of mine I guess.

Bump old threads – i'll likely respond if I can add value!

I agree with popular opinion.  Use the old forum post… as it has the history :)
