Hey Everyone,

I started my blog a few weeks ago and I love the idea of the Yakezie challenge and helping others with their blogs.  My question is what is the best way to use Yakezie to help others and improve your own blog?  It all just seems a bit overwhelming at first.  I would very much like to be an active member, but I'm not sure how to start.  I see everything about blog carnivals, weekly round ups, guest posts, and more… I'm not quite sure how this all works.  Is there any type of guide or anything?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 this was our story:http://sustainablepersonalfina…..-complete/

network tons, read other blogs a lot, guest posts, submit to carnivals and first and foremost, produce good content.  Pretty much what Sam describes in the first link.

Feel free to drop me an email if you have any other questions – our challenge went by pretty fast!

Welcome to the Yakezie! Here is my take -

1) Understand that getting involved in the Yakezie may mean decreasing your own posting schedule slightly. I think that's OK.

2) Write a forum post introducing yourself, say hi!

3) Keep an eye on the updated forum threads and get involved commenting and/or answering questions to share any expertise you have.

4) Join the next Yakezie Blog Swap once that gets started being organized. That will let you get to know new bloggers in the Yakezie.

Welcome and I concur – be active on these forums and you're halfway there!  I personally jump into the projects that look like fun to me and pass on the ones that don't.  Just wade in to the threads that look good to you!  :-)

I'd add to that the Alexa affect.  Alexa still is the defacto for many advertisers when deciding how much to pay to advertise on your website.  By interacting with Yakezie members, you will experience a boost in your score as most everyone has the bar installed on their browser.  Expect an increase in your traffic as well, but only to the extent of the network's reach.

Thanks for that incite.  I hope that I can get my Alexa ranking moving since it is at over 8 million right now!

This may go without saying, but I keep my blog reader updated so I can stay up with the great blogs. It's a good way to stay connected at a glance. Plus when you are active with other blogs, people tend to reciprocate.

I've found this forum most helpful by searching for threads related to my questions or posting my own (and I have many many questions).

Definitely, set a pace that's sustainable. You don't want to burn out.

Twitter is also a good way to get good updates. I never thought I would ever understand twitter, but I've actually come across some good post and bloggers that way. I limit my subscriptions to finance folks & a few travel bloggers. You can catch a case of ADD if you are not careful. :)

Finally, I do try to set aside a day/time for blog related tasks. Although that's not always feasible, I do try to keep a consistent schedule.

Most of all enjoy it! This has been a wonderful experience thus far. You'll do great!

I concur with what everyone else has said.  If you want it all together:

  1. Download the Alexa tool bar
  2. Install the Yakezie Challengers badge
  3. Work on the quality of your own posts and make sure that you are posting consistently every week
  4. Visit the members listed on the member page and challengers that you see on the forums
  5. Comment on other blogs.  Those blogs WILL follow you back
  6. Link to your fellow challengers from your own posts.  They WILL do the same
  7. Participate in carnivals, festivals, swaps and social networks
  8. Submit guest posts to other blogs so that you can get some traffic as well
  9. Participate in the forums
  10. Have fun!

:)

Blogging can be a little overwhelming because there is a huge learning curve, and it may take awhile to get much traffic.  It can be discouraging if you don't have realistic expectations.  Here are my thoughts:

1.  Comment on other blogs and try to nurture relationships.

2.  Write roundups weekly if you can.  Everyone can use links.

3.  Submit to carnivals.

4.  Write quality content.

5.  Don't be afraid to go 'off topic' once in awhile.  Readers like to get to know the writer too.  (That may be just my opinion though.)

6.  Don't stress is you can't post as often as you like.  Life happens.

7.  Don't worry about stats constantly.  Traffic takes time, and checking stats can be a big time waster.

8.  Limit your time blogging/commenting so you don't burn out.  You can literally spend 24 hours a day if you don't control yourself!

9.  Submit guest posts to other blogs.

10. Submit your blog to directories like blogcatalog, technorati, etc.

11.  Install great plugins to make your life easier.  (google sitemap, that kind of thing)

Ok, I better stop for now.  Have a great day!

Number one way to get involved – COMMENT.  Head over to Budgeting in The Fun Stuff she has an awesome list of challengers and members.  Just take an hour or two and go straight down the list when watching tv tonight.  I know I head over to almost every site when someone comments on my site.

Lets face it that is why 82% of people start blogs – to interact.

Hey two things really quick… There is a blog swap that is getting pulled together, its posted up in the forum, you should sign up for it.  It's my first one as well, and it lines up with your goals!  Second thing, I went to your website to email you this, and I noticed you don't have a "contact" page setup…you should do that! I have had useful tips from several Yakezie members emailed to me while they were browsing my site, its allowed me to make some helpful modifications.

I think that commenting on other blogs (with meaningful comments), having a weekly roundup (which I miss doing, but I just don't have the time), and trying to promote others in my articles and on various bookmarking sites, helped me the most.
