Hi Everyone,

Pretty excitied to start this Challenge. Just wanted to drop a post and say hi to everyone, I plan on participating in the community a lot and I didn't want anyone to be scared when some random statue dude comments on a post lol.

I'm also excitied to help promote other sites on our site. Just wrote an article on starting the challenge, here is a link:

http://banknerd.ca/2011/03/16/…..challenge/

If there is any suggestions on the best way to do this Challenge or just have questions on banknerd.ca just ask. Plus, I look forward to meeting all of you (or at least a majority lol).

Hi Bank Guru!!!  I don't know if it is the best way to work the challenge, but just being involved here in the Yakezie forums and posting a regular update worked for me.  I went from 8 million plus Alexa ranking to 60,000 in less than 6 months (March 2010 to September 2010) and am at 32,521 right now.  :-)  Good luck – hope to see you at Budgeting in the Fun Stuff!

Thanks for the comment. I am finding aksimet picking up more legitimate comments as spam as of late (probably last 2 months). Little bit upsetting, but i'm sure the guys over at wordpress will figure it out.

Now that is interesting. I personally set an ambitious target of 50,000. Though i expect to break the 100,000 mark. We publish on a daily basis and are looking to increase that to twice daily in the near future. When you say posting a regular update, does that mean in this forum or a new blog post on your blog?

I've seen bugeting in the fun stuff before, great content!

We are more interested in showcasing other blogs on our site (one of the Yakezie commandments? lol) then the Alexa ranking. Though we figure our ranking will decrease as a result of us helping other blogs.

I'd highly suggest installing the Conditional Captcha plugin to go along with Akismet.  That combo has saved a bunch of us a ton of headaches.  :-)

I post Monday-Friday with regular posts, do a roundup of actual posts I enjoyed and giveaways on Saturdays, and a blog stats and savings update on Sundays.  When I first started, that Sunday update was just my Alexa ranking for the Yakezie Challenge.  :-)  I think the update works because it explains the challenge and links to the Alexa toolbar so even my non-Yakezie readers can help me out.

Interesting. Never heard of this Conditional Captcha. Thanks for the share. Funny how right when you think you have all the plugins you'll ever need. There is always one more lol

I was thinking of doing a round up article but i'm not happy with those. I think i don't like them because of the way they are formatted. Though, the roundup article serves its purpose and is probably very effective.

better than conditional captcha (annoying!!!! to have to enter garbled words or numbers) is GASP – a simple check box.  I've had a few people (Miss T from Prairie EcoThrifter and Mike from MoneySmartsBlog adopt it).  The plugin isn't mine but it is SO much nicer than having to figure out what letters or numbers to enter.  Click the box and you've proven "you are human".

That being said, Welcome pal!  You know i've read and commented on your site for a good long time.

No requisite to run "weekly" readings or carnivals for Yakezie I don't think, but if you see something you like, do as you already do and point to it in your normal articles.  That's what I do.

Will be cool to see you around even more than I do already on twitter and each others sites! CHEERS!

(and we're Canadian, we rock ;) )

We do rock! eh? lol To tempting. Ya i'm really big on twitter. I am on it way to much that I think it might legally be called an addiction lol.

I am thinking of running a weekly round up post which is just another name for a carnival. As I think it would generate the most attention to other blogs. I think if I just do what i'm doing now (just link to outside articles) and create a round up article. It would help generate more exposure for other blogs. I might put a twist on the round up, as i really hate the formatting on those articles.

Still figuring out exactly how this all works. I am curious to know where I am going to end up in the rankings.

I have figured out what to do!

Each week I will post a new thread on the Yakezie forum asking for articles that will be featured on banknerd.ca. One of our biggest issues is wanting to get more of our content syndicated and picked up quicker. It made me think that a lot of other sites might have a similiar issue. I am sure there are tons of great content on all of our sites that should get picked up but don't.

So what I'll do is I will post a thread announcing this week that I will be taking 'orders' for an article series titled "The Best of the Web". I'll take the best articles from the Yakezie members and a few from the outside world (only fair).

What this means for Yakezie members?

When the new weekly thread shows up, submit your article with a link to your site and I'll review each and everyone.

I think it is the best solution to showcase some new, old and just great content.

What do you think?

Haha, you read my mind! I've been meaning to make a post calling out for the best of the best from everyone's arhives that I could feature on HowToSaveMoney.ca instead of just the usual weekly round up from the past week.

I guess it isn't exactly the same thing but close!
