My wordpress website seems to be getting a lot of spam these days. Oakley Sunglasses, no thanks! Handbags… no thanks! Anything else, keep it!

Do anybody have a good way to reduce this spam?

Thanks

What? No spam for Ugg Boots? ;-) I feel your pain. I think we all do. On Wordpress, I use a combination of Akismet and NoSpamNX. The former, as you're likely aware, is the stock filtering plugin. The latter does a good job of blocking bot-based spam, though human-mediated spam can still get through.

When my daily spam totals reached the digits, I added the GASP checkbox. Now I'm getting about a dozen per day.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I don't use Askimet because a year or two ago a lot of bloggers were having their comments automatically marked as spam no matter what the content.  I use GASP plus require first time commenters be approved manually.  It keeps the spammers at bay.

It seems that some people have problems with Akismet and others don't. In over a year of using it on two different blogs, I've had less than a4 false positives, not counting pings. With pings, the number is maybe 2 dozen. That works out to about 1%

I use Akismet + Conditional CAPTCHA. It applies the Akismet filter and gives the people caught a chance to get out. If you are not flagged as spam, you don't see a CAPTCHA.
