I think it's inevitable that I switch to Wordpress. Does anyone have experience switching from one blogging platform to another?

Thanks

No but ABSOLUTELY SWITCH SOONER THAN LATER!

If you are new it may be easier just to start from scratch and repost the posts…if you are looking to actually migrate there are a ton of tutorials or you can contact my freelancer (and Yakezie Member) Jesse over at PF Firewall

Thesis is value for money. I would go that route soon. I am using magazine basic with self customization, to see un adulterated magazine basic, go to 101 centavos site. I never used any other theme

I second this. I used to use Weebly and I had to literally transfer each post into Wordpress one by one. There was no way for me to do a mass transfer. I'm glad I did it then when I only had 60 articles or so. Now I have 400ish and it would take forever!!!!

I switched from Blogger to Wordpress a few times. I only wish I had started on WP. If you have any questions, let me know.

I have heard good things about Thesis. Where is Staples' easy button when you need it?

I also started in blogger but switched to WP after a few months. I must admit it is much better. You get a lot more customization options. Plus it seems to do better for traffic too.

If you need help switching I am sure someone on the network can help you out with that. There are a ton of skilled people here.

Alright I hope someone here is technically savvy. Here's where I am – any help is greatly appreciated.

I have set up funancials.wordpress.com (funancials.biz is still powered by godaddy/tumblr)

I purchased Thesis and downloaded FileZilla. Here is where I'm stuck..

I go to 'site manager' in FileZilla. 'new site' and then for host, what do I put? (ftp://funancials.wordpress.com)?

Nothing seems to be working for me.

Hunter, first, when everyone says wordpress is the way to go… we generally mean self hosted wordpress. Not the free wordpress.com. That would give you only a tiny bit more control than tumblr. I don't know too much about tumblr to say if it is even worth the switch. Eventually you will have to migrate to self-hosted wordpress, why not now?

With that said, have you tried this? http://haochen.me/tumblr/

You enter your tumblr url and it will export everything to xml. You then import it in wordpress.com. You will have your mirror site.

And finally to have thesis, you should have a self hosted blog. Wordpress.com will not work for thesis. Sorry Frown

Don't take my word for it. Custom themes are not allowed in wordpress.com http://en.support.wordpress.co…..ew-themes/

If I were you I would just migrate to wordpress.org self hosted blog and get it done with… my 2c…

Definitely listen to Suba's advice.  You should opt for the self-hosting option.  It may cost you a little bit of cash to buy the domain and the hosting, but it's so much better to own the name.  Plus it's easier for people to remember since it's shorter.  Most hosting companies have an automated installer that will walk you through the set-up, and even provide their live support to help with other issues, should you need it.

Agree with all others  -switch to self hosted wordpress sooner rather than later.  Thesis is also a great theme but you do have to pay – knowing what I know now I'd just shell out the money.  You wont end up jerking with details of design 2+ years later like I did.
