Technorati Finance Rank Suddenly Dropped to Rank 1

My Finance Technorati authority was growing every day little by little. I even made it to page 16. Then yesterday it dropped to 1!!!! I am back to page 358 (where I started when I first signed up) or something like this. My overall Technorati authority is still growing.  Does anyone know what is going on? Have you experienced anything like it? What should I do?

Whenever these stat services (or follower counter services) drop off the face of the earth just take a deep breath, count to 10, and relax.

If after 3-4 days they haven't returned to the previous glory you recently had, then freak and look for a solution.

These "services" are fickle not to mention unstable.

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear about that.  At least you're ranked. I can't get wisebread or Technorati to even list my blog :/

I will patiently await the return of my previous glory. Laugh

Usually when something like that happens, they are updating – i'd give it a week or so like SPF says, then look into it.

Yes, Technorati fluctuates rapidly. There are times that I drop off the charts for a certain category and then there are days like today that have me at #6 for Finance (highest I've seen yet – nice surprise).

@Evan, have you registered your blog with Technorati? Also, (side note) did you remove your signature (on purpose)?

My overall authority went from about 100 to about 450 a few days ago.  My business and finance authority haven't changed, though.

This link explains Technorati Authority

The abridged version:  Your technorati authority is based on the amount of links to your site over a very short time period. Basically it says to expect volatility in your sites rankings.

Ranking can probably be rigged by submitting to a huge amount of carnivals weekly.

On the rare chance I am at the technorati site, I usually check out and click on the sites in the Top 10 movers list, for what it's worth.

My politics ranking is at '1', no clue how to move it, haha.  For business and finance I had to delete my site, wait a week, and resubmit.

One weird thing about Technorati was I had to give my Feedburner feed – I had an authority of 1 in every category because it couldn't deal with the redirect from my site's feed to Feedburner.  If it stays at 1 for 3 or 4 days it's an option… delete and reclaim with a feed link you know is the final redirect?

I don't think your ranking on Technorati does anything to help your blog so I wouldn't worry about it.  I can't remember the last time I looked at Technorati rankings.

I don't think Technorati does a lot, either. If anything, it might help your Wisebread or MC rating (if you care about that). I get virtually no traffic from there.

As with any rankings or counters like these, I wouldn't panic. 99% of the time it's just a temporary glitch, so no need to monitor them every day.

Days later I am still at authority "1" for Finance. Will give it a week and then maybe I will re-submit.

Yeah, Technorati does not matter anymore. I wouldn't waste time on it.

I would like to disagree with some of the consensus here. There is a great point that you won't receive much traffic from technorati, but you still receive some traffic. If you are pressed for time, i agree that Technorati shouldn't be a high priority. However, a lot of people use Technorati when they are looking for quality blogs within their niche. For example, I know that one advertiser contacted me after coming to my site from Technorati. I'm not saying that if you fix Technorati, advertisers will flood to your site… but I am saying that you just never know and to me, it's worth it to make sure it working properly.

This happened to me a while back.  I was stuck there for a while, it took a couple times of removing and re-submitting to finally get back.  I don't think I've even checked to see how I currently stand as the whole process really annoyed me (plus I have heard the same thoughts that they're not really that releveant).
