I noticed that quite a few blogs have this feature. What is this?

I believe you are talking about Link Within: http://www.linkwithin.com/learn
That's what I use, but it's not as accurate as "Efficient Related Posts" http://xavisys.com/wordpress-p…..ted-posts/

I'm now using "Contextual Related Posts" since it was working so well for Everyday Tips. :-)

I was wondering the same thing. Pity we can't start capturing some of these questions in a FAQ style page.

I was actually planning on writing a post going through a few of the plugins and other resources that I use for my site – in case anyone likes something that I use. Maybe if a few more people here do it, we can compile those links.

Bringing this backup from the graveyard of old forum posts. What is everyone using these days? What didn't work for you?

I've been using YARPP (for WordPress) recently and I like it. Very tweakable, also inserts into your RSS feed if you wish, etc.

I have used Better Related Content from day one and have never had any reason to change. It does what I need it to do.

I use nRelate and am very happy with it. I like that it displays image thumbnails.

Oh my gosh! I have been wondering what people are using to generate the cute boxes with related posts, and it's linkwithin! Thanks for the heads up! Just installed it and love it already.
Now just gotta figure out how to get the stinkin' Related Posts section out of my template.

As users, do you prefer the link list like gets created by YARPP, or the fancier ones that get created by LinkWithin?
Second question. I'm tempted to try LinkWithin, but only started adding images to posts about two years ago (out of four). Does it allow for a default image if there isn't one in the post? Also, does it have to be marked as the featured image?

I prefer a simple, clean list of links — both as a reader and as a blogger.

I just got rid of my plugin linkwithin because I felt like it was taking away from people signing up on my newsletter. That, and I am moving towards custom sidebars with a list of 10 posts that are the best posts in the corresponding category. Since I got rid of it, more people have used my call to action for my newsletter each day. That is a success in my book.

Were the links above or below your call to action? Mine are below b/c I was afraid of exactly what you described. I do think that related links list provide good connectivity across your site for SEO purposes if nothing else.

I've been meaning to get rid of this as well. It is used rarely I find, and, from what I recall, when someone does click on it a redirect is called to the linkwithin site which then returns to your site. This affects your site visit time and bounce rate.
