I have been posting at 9AM, mostly because it gave me a chance to look over the post one last time, but I am beginning to think I miss the morning blog readers by waiting til that time.

What is the best time to post, in your estimation?  And why?

My posts usually go up at 6:30am CST. I seem to catch quite a bit of morning traffic that way, as well as east coast people as soon as they get to work (especially on Mondays – seems EVERYONE is surfing at work in the morning). I also have good luck around 7:30 CST.

In my case, I am on a lot of Blogger blogrolls, which update via RSS. So when my posts go up, I move to the top of the blogrolls until someone else posts. A lot of my morning traffic comes from those sites.

I agree with Andrea – stuff you know will do well?  Post it early on the heavy traffic days (Monday – Wednesday).  If you have something you aren't sure people will like?  Try to get it out at a time people aren't posting as much – when people have a full reading list, they might not take the time to read the more theoretical article.

Maybe try it at different times for now, and see which articles do well at different times?

I always post at 6am eastern, except the occasional times when the post just isn't ready.  I have not seen a major difference when I am late.   It would be too much trouble to figure out how to game the aggregators. If someone figures out a scientific way to improve a posting schedule, I'm all ears.

I set them to post early in the AM. Early enough to catch the 6am readers on East Coast. So far I've been lucky that all my posts are done in advance, no later than the previous night. I then schedule them so I don't have to wake up.

I post at 6:30am eastern time. For the same reason as most, to catch the early readers.

I hit 7:00am MTN so I get the 9:00am surfers on the East Coast. I have considered pushing it up an hour to 6:00am.

I know it won't matter much with a brand new blog, but I've got scheduled for 9AM eastern.  Based on the comments above, I might have to go even earlier.  Do most people just pick a time and leave it or do you actually take the time to test different posting times?  I'm thinking with a new blog I might want to avoid the peak times completely.

I've been swamped lately, and writing my posts morning-of.   Publishing at 9am seems to be boosting traffic.   I think I'm hitting the "I just got to work and poured a cup of coffee, now it's time to slack off" readers.

I am tending to think that 6:30 CST is a time I want to schedule my posts for.  That gets the posts out before most people get to work across the continental USA.

I have seen some research that indicates Twitter is highest from 8 to 5 Mon-Fri, while Facebook picks up weekdays from 4:30 on, and then on weekends.

You're funny – It's sometimes people post at all kinds of odds times – one day at 6am, and another at 2pm, who knows!

I used to always post at 5 am EST.  As an experiment I tried posting at different times to see if there was a difference in traffic.  Turns out the best time for me to post is during the 12 to 12:30 pm EST range (I think it's because that's morning traffic from West Coast).
