So that every one knows, 50% of US population is in eastern time zone, and 30% in central.

I schedule my posts for 8:30 EST. I don't know that I've noticed a huge difference in traffic from that time based on another time because this is what I've always done. I just like to stay consistent. I may contemplate moving it up to 7:30 or 8:00 EST as an experiment but I'm not sure. For some reason, I get a huge amount of traffic from the West Coast so I don't think that moving it up will have a dramatic effect on my numbers.

Since I don't usually write posts ahead of time I usually publish my posts whenever I finish writing them. This results in random posting times but people still find my posts. Maybe I'd have more readers if I were on a more consistent schedule but I like to just write when I feel like writing.

I've always wondered about this. I usually blog at night, so most of my posts are published between 10 pm – 12 am EST. I'm not sure if it's the best time. I seem to get the same number of readers coming to my blog no matter what time I publish.

I use a Calendar plug in to schedule my posts. Seems to work for me. I am changing up the hour of publication to 7:30 CST to get the post in front of East Coast people at the start of their work day.

Are you getting more readers at that time of day? I'll have to check out the calendar plug ins.

I'm with you. I've done both, heavily scheduling all my posts or just writing as they come. Writing as they come has resulted in better writing, which I think leads to better readership down the road.

I have never seen a difference in post readership based in when i schedule, but to be on the safe side and make sure everyone catches my new post I try to schedule them for the wee hours of the morning. – Gene

That's a very good word. Writing with inspiration certainly feels less like a chore.

It does make you less predictable for your readers though. Some care, some don't.

I am with Gene, I schedule mine for the wee hours. So that if someone decides to drop by they will have a fresh article to view. Some are early birds and like their daily dose early, I for one am not!

I'm in the mountain time zone. I've been publishing my posts at 5:00am so that they should be visible to east coast readers when they are checking their email/RSS/twitter in the morning.
Lately, I've been trying an experiment with 8am. We'll see how it works out.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I've been scheduling my posts for 4am PST for the last year, and it works out pretty good. Lately though, I've been considering scheduling them for 1am PST.

Wow, after reading all the comments, I definitely have to rethink my posting times! I obviously need to do a better analysis of our traffic to determine a better time to post, so that we get more readers. @OneFrugalGirl The Calendar plugin tool sounds quite promising, thanks for the tip
