Wordpress Session Time / Cookie Expiration

Does anybody know what the timeout period is for after you log into Wordpress before it logs you out?  Also, is there a plugin or setting where it can warn you before it automatically logs you out?  A couple of times, I'll be sailing along, start a new post, write the whole thing, and when I hit Publish (or Schedule) it takes me to my login page, meaning that my session must have expired.  There's always a draft there but it will literally cut out mid-way through a sentence.  If I'm lucky, like today, it will have occurred later in the writing of the post, but I've had it where it didn't make it through 30 words of a 500 word post.  Very annoying.

Any help here would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Not a good answer to your question BUT you should check out windows live writer.  Ends that problem and in my opinion a lot easier to work with

I'm not sure either. I've never had that issue. I always write my posts in Word and copy them over to WP. I like the spell check and grammar check better than the one inside of WP.

I've never had that issue, although I have unknowingly lost my internet connection while writing a post so almost none of the post was saved as a draft.  As the others have said if you're going to be writing a long post you should probably write it offline and copy it to WP.

Guess offline writing and then pasting in is the way to go.  Thanks all.

I'm not sure on the timeframe, but it seems like the session expires much faster in 3.4 than it did in the past. I've noticed the same thing and it's really annoying.

I had an experience about a year ago where an old, unused Hotmail account had a bunch of outbound spam sent to my contact list, which was still populated from people I used before I switched the carrier.  The password was strong and my computers were kept up, but I figured that I'd change the password, which was easy, then figured I'd just cancel the account, since I hadn't used it in years.

Easy enough, right?

No.

Microsoft wouldn't 'let' me.  It said I had previously subscribed to a connected service and needed to remove that account first.  Except the link that it sent me to check showed I had no subscriptions.  E-mails sent to support, they couldn't find anything.  But still can't delete the account.

So, I'm leery of having Microsoft's hooks in anything to do with my blog.

I haven't seen any issue where I get logged out.

Curious.  Could it be an OS/browser issue? (I'm on a Mac using Chrome).

Don't think so.  Firefox on Windows.

I wrote a few posts yesterday in Word and that seemed fine, so I'll stick with that.

By default, WordPress makes your login session cookie expire in 48 hours (or on browser close), or 14 days if you check the "Remember Me" box. This plugin makes those timeout values user-configurable through the Users admin control panel.

Interesting.  Mine definitely seems to be going faster than that.  For sure going to do the copy and paste thing from now on.
